Seeing as it's the weather is starting to clear up and the snow has melted, I think that it would be a pretty good idea to kick off my spring/summer with a fitness goal of somesort. I'm not overweight and am in pretty good physical condition and physically fit.

However, I noticed that when I'm bored I tend to head to the refridegerator and grab snacks or a scoop of ice cream. I think that sooner or later it'll catch up to me.

So basically, if I were to go running (+ walking) for at least 30 minutes 2-3 times a week, would any weight be deducted?

Also, what are some good healthier snack choices I could eat instead of chips and ice cream. I eat fruit pretty often, and also intake some 100 packs here and there for lunch.

-thanks

Walking or running for 30 mins 3 times per week would certainly help burn off any fat but it is also likely to tone up your muscles and muscle weighs heavier than fat. Don't worry too much about the weight. If you exercise regularly you will be fitter and will keep in better shape. Snacking is a habit you can break. As long as you eat a well balanced diet with fruit and veg and drink plenty water - about 2 litres or 4pints a day and cut down on the chips and ice cream you should be fine. Dried fruit such as raisins or apricots are good.Seeds such as pumpkin seeds are nice and chewy and very good for you.The main thing when starting to exercise is to break yourself in gently. Don't start the running until
you can comfortably do a fast walk without being out of breath. Then start running and walking - say a hundred yards of each alternately and finally get into the running but take it easy to start with. More people give up because they injure themselves during the first few weeks of a new exercise programme. So - Good luck and take it easy to begin with.

Any kind of activity you're adding to your routine will help you. It should help keep off any extra pesky pounds you'd gain from indulging in snacks. Walking is great. Start with that if you want, and work your way up to a jog. Then maybe running. The important thing is to ease yourself into it, otherwise you could become discouraged very easily. Set reasonable goals each time you go walking/running. Then you'll start to see your progress.

I recently added green tea to my daily routine, and found that it's helped me want to be more active, and has left me feeling healthier, also. You might want to give it a try.

Also, sugar-free pudding snack packs are delicious and are only 60 calories. You could even have two, and it would still be okay. They're perfect for an after lunch or dinner treat. Also, one scoop of ice cream here and there won't kill you. It's okay to indulge, just don't eat the whole box :)

Just watch food labels. Anything that doesn't have a lot of sugar, and is low in calories will help you maintain your weight. You should always watch your transfat and saturated fat intake as well, but the calories are what will get you in the long run.

It's not a good idea to run every day, unless you're training to be a runner and are under the supervision of a professional (such as a coach).

It's also not a good idea to just start running for long periods of time if you haven't been doing so already. You need to learn how to warm up beforehand (i.e. stretching exercises) and cool-down afterwards, as well as wearing shoes that suit the running you want to do. For those, you might want to consult a coach or experienced runner.

You shouldn't just start running for 30 minutes the first day. YOu will probably want to build up to it by walking, then jogging, then running once you get into better condition, and likewise build up the amount of time.

Most non-athlete runners run/jog three times a week. Doing so can definitely help you burn off weight, as it will both burn more calories and help speed up your metabolism.

Above all, before you begin any exercise program, be sure to clear it with your doctor.
