Why do Christians say they talk and speak WITH God, when they mean AT God?

Stop pretending you are having a conversation. Don't tell me you talk with God unless your eardrums vibrate from the sound of his voice.

If you don't hear him with your physical ears, you are not having a conversation.

Its basically a way they make themselves feel important. The claim they speak with god makes them feel special and above others who merely speak at god. Its like a ego fueled fruad. One lil old lady says god tells her this, then the other claims god told her that and before you know it all these biblethumpers are blowing smoke up each others bum with claims god spoke to them.

well, some people get answers, though God doesn't speak through words to everyone, (Some people do hear God, or voices, most people think they're crazy anyways) just simply ask a question and you might find the answer in the form of a phone call,(after a prayer regarding my Career situation, I received a call from my current employer... within a matter of seconds! for example) or in the form of a feeling (intuition) or through others, all can be classified as or be explained by coincidence, but its a matter of what you believe, the point is it happens for some, and for others its harder to see such "answers"... of all the "mysterious" people wouldn't you think that such a creator with a concept and a motive would be beyond our own comprehension. The creation, to be aware of the creator's mere existence would have been on mere guess, or the pondering said that God had given them the gift to even know of their own existence. I'm not quoting scripture, I'm not even sure I'm right... but the fact of the matter is, Live and let live, If Christians really do have pseudo-psychotic lapses of said schizophrenic revelations, we'd all be so lucky!

You only speak that way because you dont know God yet. True Christians that love God enough to obey Him, will be blessed with so many things right here on earth, before they even go to Heaven. And Yes, many of us do hear the voice of God as He speaks to us and He even tells us what to pray for, besides what to do, and He tells us when He answers pray, quite frequently or we already see it. and you are mocking God because you dont know truth yet. But, God still loves you and will forgive you if you ask Him. Yoj mention vibrations in the ear. Oh man, I wish you knew. You think a person that talks to God is like a schizophrenic, thats only hearing voices, huH? Thats cuz you dont know YET, but one day all will know.
When God speaks, sometimes it is very soft and gentle, and its beautiful. Other times, when He speaks, it is loud and really gets your undivided attention. and it too is beautiful. God warns us about things, shows us truth, and tells us her our enemies are, those who wish only to deceive us. Only if you love God enough to obey Him, knowing what He wants by studyig scripture and then doing it, will you know the voice of God from the voice of the devil. SOmetimes its so clear and audible. Other times, you only feel a nudging and dont even know what it is, but you listen or ignore.
Lets say a man sees a beautiful woman, but he is married, and he wants to sleep with her. Conscious says NO, which is the Holy Spirit. oh yes, and He is talking and He too is God. Bible is clear on that, Father God is God, Jesus the Son is God, and the Holy Spirit is God. all threee part , triune Godhead,with three operating as three seperate as one. Holy spirit speaks and is saying no . But, he also feels well, if my wife were sweeter, or prettier, whatever... I wouldnt want to cheat, so its ok.. Now, who do you think was talking to him there???? wasnt God. But the devil. This man may not even have heard an audible voice, but he felt the things GOD or the devil were saying, and its his choice who he listens to and obeys. That simple. Ever leading is from either God or the devil. whether or not you ever believe that, is up to you, but it is still truth.
The voice that tells you that we cant talk with GOD, its not GOD. I assure you. Ask God to show you if He is real. Pray and wait and watch what happens.
When you hear God tell you a loved one will live after docs say no, and it happens, then you KNOW. Just hasnt happened to you yet . Ask God to speak to you..... wait.....

I never heard God. I talked and talked and really and truly felt that he would say something back to me. I wanted him to. I waited.

Nothing.

Of course, that's when I was a Christian and felt that God existed. Now I know of course that God didn't speak because he's not there!

like every relationship - it is easy to tell when one person is dominating the conversation. how do you know whether or not I am talking with or talking AT God???

God lives in my heart, because I asked him to, NOT because I deserve it. I can't do it all on my own. This isn't rocket science - you talk, He'll listen. You listen, He talks. happy huntings

There is a quote I can partially remember refering to hearign the audible voice of God. Something like

If you talk to God you are spiritual. If God talks to you, you are probally crazy.

Although I do not hear Him audibly, I know He is listening to me. So yes, I am talking with Him, not at.

I am Muslim and i know a lot of good Christians. leave the good ones in peace. what have the good true Christain done to u to make you so mad at them? there are good ppl who are hypocrites. but that doesn't mean the whole religion is bad. i should know.
