Ok, my cat does the weidiests things! She doesn't mew, she squeaks like a fridge turning on, and she sits on her back legs like a Meerkat off of Meerkat Manor. Does anyone out there know why? And she doesn't even do it for treats! She just does it, is this normal?

How cute! maybe just in anticipation or just wanting to See better or just plain happy. One of our cats, our big boy watches Meerkat manor, he will sit and watch it and now he acts like them sometimes, he will do that tail in the air and war cat dance to get me to chase him. He is usually afraid of the man in that 62 inch screen, but put his buddies on, you know, Flower and the gang, and he will sit and watch till the show is over, and he makes ear movements when the rival gang meerKats show up and makes wierd relief sounds when everything turns out OK. ha ha.

That might just happen to be a comfortable stance for your cat. Take a picture of your cat to remember that it did that. It's pretty cool. Different cats have different ways of doing things. Don't worry about it! Your cat is just fine, and is probably just happy with what it does.

normal for her. my cats do funny things like play fetch. beg for dinner and i mean sit up and beg and when i offer three different flavours they seem too be able to chose just one and when i ask them again they always chose the same one . by the way mine also sit up like a meerkat when extremely interested in somthing where they might need to flee or fight, they are both indoor cats

My Sophie did that a lot when she was a kitten. That gave me the idea of training her to beg for a treat!

I even have a video of her begging on my 360.

As for why, I'm not really sure. My own experience is that it's more of a kitten thing, but perhaps that's just how it worked for my two.

Ours does this too (we call it groundhogging) when she's trying to see something or isn't too sure if she'll have to flee or not. She likes peeking over the screen door, ready to escape if a little bird flies too close!
