you need to take it to a trust worthy shop and show them the noise it could be a cv joint, strut or upper strut mount ,sway bar link or bushing .ball joint the list goes on.

If you take your wheel off the cause of the noise will probably become apparent.

My first guess would be CV-Joint. The first rubber boot on the shaft would be torn and open if this was the case.

You can also check to see if your struts are out by getting someone fairly heavy (or muscular) to push on the corner of the car that the noise is coming from. Get them to push it down as hard as they can at least 5-6 times then stop. If the car bounces more than once you need struts. Do this with the wheel back on, of course. :P

Another cause of noise is the strut mount. You can check the mount in the same way you check the struts themselves only open the hood, prop it, and put your hand on the strut tower (the things with three nuts on either side of the engine compartment) and feel for any vibration. You shouldn't feel anything at all.

It sounds to me like you have 2 possible problems.
1. You need new shocks and struts. (No big deal)
2. You need a new front axle. Commonly in mid-sized vehicles the axle boot rips or tears from impact and dries out the axle causing a popping noise and sometimes a grinding noise. Be assured that if this is the problem it could be costly.
Good Luck.

i have a 91 camry and its the strut itself they wear out on the inside and you cant see it.
when its under pressure and you hit a bump it moves enough to rattle and or knock. it took me a hour to find it. because when you jack up the car the wear spot is not in the same spot with the tire off the ground

you have a severely cracked outer cv joint it sounds like...have it checked by a mechanic. If that joint breaks you will lose control of the vehicle
