Play the field, and that doesn't mean immediately signing up with another team (translation: date some other people without getting committed deeply right away).
You are wise in knowing that first loves die hard, but often they are based on infatuation and you may only come to that conclusion after many more years of understanding the dynamics of relationships. Even if it is true love, it is still healthier for both of you to test the waters with other potential partners and even those with whom you know you are just having a little fun for a while.
Ultimately, unrequited love will also cool your passion. Even though it may hurt like the devil right now, if your ex doesn't return your feelings you will be able to move on eventually. In the meantime enjoy your youth and gain new and fruitful experiences beyond your first love--but always remember the vibrance and wonderful way it made you feel when it was happening.

My personal opinion; take it or leave it: Getting over a first love is extremely difficult, especially if it has only been 2 months. From experience, the best advice I can give is to cut off all communication with this person for at least a good while. Communicating with the person will only make things more difficult and get you thinking the wrong way. If you are broken up and really want to be broken up, then do not call, email, text or anything. Over time, it will just be easier, and of course all of this is much easier said than done. Also, it's much more difficult to get over a first love if you cannot find another to fill their place. It will take time so don't rush it; rely on your friends for support; they're always there for you no matter what.

Oh man.... i know exactly what you mean!!! For me it's been five years me and my first love broke up!!! and it was hard... I moved on already and been in another relationship almost three years! Me and him stayed friends for a while and at times he would act weird towards me too... But i let time go by, we even had a few encounters after our break up, but i just didn't take it serious i didn't wanna get hurt no more!!! Just be strong! thats all you can do right now... Give him some space , and if its meant to be he'll come back but if he doesn't....YOU WILL FIND SOMEONE THAT WILL APPRECIATE YOU!!!

Don't take it as an insult honestly.
You have to grow up! It sounds like you are both young, and naturally it will hurt but I guarantee in to years you will more then likely go I did with him?>>>>
Don't sweat it chances he feels like you do and you don't want to put to much pressure on him to be your friend, you will just push him further and further away then what is already done.

Don't try to be friends yet--it's only a couple months and that may be unrealistic. It'll be pure torture. Just agree to talk someday, and be on your way. I think if you get away from him you will get over him sooner.
