There is no way to really answer you question because California is a large state, and the various regions are all different. Southern California is different than Northern California, which is different that the "Central Valley", and so on, and so on.
Parts are desert, parts are mountainous, parts are forests, parts are savanna like. If you would like to know what a specific area is like please add details to your question and I'm sure you will get an acceptable reply from someone
