I need a receipe for the old time cake icing that you could feel the sugar granules in. It was fluffy and would leave a film in you mouth. I know that sounds gross but it was so very good and you can't find it anymore. Thanks!

1/2 c. shortening (Crisco)
4 c. (1 box) confectioners sugar
4 tbsp. water
Dash of salt (optional)
1 tsp. vanilla

This is a typical decorator frosting...it can be tinted with regular food coloring. You can swap out a little bit of the confectioners sugar for granulated sugar to give you the grainy texture....I'd say about 1 cup would do it. And the Crisco is where you get that "slick" feeling from!

The previously mentined answer had something about flour in it....I'd steer clear of that, because raw flour is not appealing in flavor.....but that's just me.

Are you talking about a butter frosting? Powered sugar, butter and milk. That's the way my mother taught me MANY years ago.
