In a few weeks I will have the opprotunity to make a first impression on a lot of people at one time. I know that entering and exiting are important, but what else? How should I walk and act the first day, and score points with everyone?

Remember to smile. If you appear nervous people pick up on that so come as calm as possible. Dress nicely and wear makeup and jewelry but don't overdo it because acting naturally is (usually) the best way to go in a new situation. It's always good if you can compliment someone there, but make sure the words are genuine and you mean them because people can tell if you're not honest. Good Luck

Make eye contact with each person. When you meet each person do your very best to remember their name. That is so tough to do, but it scores points. Introduce yourself, don't always wait to be introduced. Make your smiles genuine, your laughter warm.

Ask questions of the other people, if possible. Most people like to talk about themselves, or their organization. When you are talking to someone else, try to bring into the conversation what someone else had said. Such as, you just met John who works with Susan, who you have met a few minutes ago. You say, "Oh, I just met her a few moments ago. We were talking about ... xxx". This opens the door for more conversation.

Making other people talk is the key. Good luck.

I agree with everyone else who said be yourself. Trying to be someone else is often transparent, and quite frankly it is starting out every relationship with a lie.
With that said, be sure to walk confidently, but be approachable.
You want to be sure your hand shake is appropriate. Not limp and too girly but also not a break-their-fingers handshake.

be yourself- so true! its hard to get out of it if you dont... also just be friendly but you dont have to conform to what they act like if you dont want to. dress nicely but not too flashy.... brush your teeth.... pronounce your name really clearly so people get it right, cuz otherwise they will say it how they think u said it, and other people will call you that.
that happens to me all the time even tho i always say Lauren really clear- people call me lorin and its so annoying! good luck tho!
