The entire egg thing is derived from Paganism. Many of Easters traditions comes from the celebration of Eostar - which is a fertility celebration. Eggs and rabbits were both used as a sign of fertility... they were used in rituals so that the Goddess would bless the crops and make them grow... as well as blessing any marriages and pregnant women. =)

I believe it has to do with the rolling of the rock away from the tomb where Jesus rose.
However, I think Pagans used to roll eggs as s symbol of new life and fertility. So take your pick.

Eggs are commonly celebrated items as a sign of new life in celtic and pre-roman cultures, that chronologically corresponds to spring, where new life..."springs"!
That's the association.

When christianity hijacked easter (I forget from which fertility goddess), they adopted the egg as a symbol of new life.

It is PAGAN, and symbolises rebirth and renewal, which occurs naturally during Springtime. The Christian explanation is tosh.
