Step one, come up with at least one specific goal. It is WONDERFUL that you want to help animals, and people are likely to want to help you help them...but - you'll do more good if you know what you intend to do with the funds that you raise. Think of it this way, would you be more likely to donate to the person saying "I am collecting money to help animals" or the one saying "I am collecting funds to support foster homes for these cats and dogs *then show them adorable photos of the specific animals you're going to help*"

After you've got a couple specific goals, figure out how much money you'll need to raise to meet your goals. Once again, you'll have a better chance if you're able to give the extra detail "we only need $50 more to house these cats and dogs for another month *enter adorable photos again*" than you would if you say "we need more money for the animals."

From here on out, there are so many places you could take this. If you need actual fund raising ideas, the bake sale is always a good idea, especially if you have access to an office environment. That's where I work, and all of the food-related fundraisers we have here are always the ones that do the best. There's the ever-popular car wash, I suppose.

If you're really ambitious, you could try organizing a Pet Festival. Have an organized dog walk, a pet fashion show, let local pet stores and especially rescues come and set up booths. Sell tickets to attend or take part in the pet show. Sell T-shirts, food, water, doggie snacks...

Also, you don't have to necessarily raise money to help animals. Shelters often need donations of food, blankets, cat litter, toys, leashes, treats... all sorts of pet-related things. You could start a collection to take to your local shelter or favorite pet rescues. These are small things, but they make a world of difference. Heck, if you do a Pet Festival sort of thing, you could take donations of pet food/supplies there, too.

Whatever you decide to do, I wish you lots of good luck. It's a worthy cause and I hope that you're very successful in making a difference in the lives of the animals you love. :)

You can have an event or something. A lot of companies will donate things, you jsut need to ask, and it helps to give them good motivation, such as apmle advertising at your event.

You can do pretty much anything you want, such as a day of games and see if you can get the organtization you are going to donate the money to get someone from their organization to come down and speak with people and educate them on animal care, etc.

You could have games where people could win things for their pets, or for themselves. You can contact many companies such as petsmart, dicks sporting goods, petco, any company you want, and see if they can either donate money or items that can be given away as prizes. However, if you want to take this venue, please contact hte companies as soon as possible, as they get many requests and often need at least 3 months notice. The more notice you give them, the better.

It can help promoting the event if you can get a local school involved. that way, you can use their track/field/auditorium, etc. Plus you are sure to get a good crowd, from the students.

A good way to promote is to also ask petsmart, petco, or any and all pet stores, if they could post an ad for your event in their windows or by the register. This is free and most places are pretty good about it.

You can also try and get a local news station in on the promoting too. This again, is free and new stations are always looking for good "puff" peices that are feel good and are about people giving back to their community.

Good luck!

I would check with your town hall first, you may need permits to collect fund raising money, depending on how much you think you can collect. Also look into other groups or organizations in your area you can partner with. Also, if you plan to collect a lot of money, I would set up a separate bank account under the name of your fundraiser.
