I would start mimicking their talk - especially when you're in front of their friends. They'll be so shocked when you say, 'Yo, sup!' to their classmate, that they'll stop talking like that in front of you! :) Being a parent is fun, isn't it?

No, I would not buy a dictionary for slang cause like stated above the 'lingo' changes daily, and all areas of the nation have different words.
I have a teenage son who changes his words daily. Right now everything is "soy' or "Beasty'..I just know that means 'Cool' :)

If you think back to when you were a teenager, you will probably remember that you had you own language, too. Every generation does and it drives parents wild...just like it's doing to you right now!!
I am a parent of a teenage boy. He talks like that, too. I converse with him as if it's the most normal thing in the world and I don't nag him about it. It's a phase. One that they (even we) all have to go thru.
With my son, I try to understand the "lingo" so we can talk. When I start to pick up on it and talk to him like that, he really "digs it." He thinks it's cool that mom can talk like that, too. It's all about keeping the lines of communication open so they're willing to talk to you. If you're constantly on their case about their "different language," they're less willing to come to you with a bigger problem.

I wouldn't because they eventually grow out of the language. It's a phase they are going through. I remember when I was growing up, I would say "whatever" constantly and it would aggrivate my mother so much. Now that I'm a parent I try to correct my son but not so much that I'm anal about every slang word he says.
Maybe one day when they greet you with "Sup?" you can say, "Nadda" and continue on. It might surprise them and deter them from speaking any more slang. No teenager wants to speak like their parents!

no all teens go thru this. it's just a phase, they will grow out of it and so what if they talk like that i'm sure they know how to talk right they just don't want to and all there friends talk that way to so they do it.

First of all, you sound like a child yourself... I don't know any adult that uses slang like using the #2 instead of spelling it out. Same with you=U. It makes you sound immature.

I full on expect to not be able to understand my kids someday. I won't try to interpret it or emulate it; it's just the way kids are and always will be.
