WHY OR WHY NOT?

nope.

funny you should ask cause i walked over one yesterday and asked myself 'why'.

i figured my reasoning this way:

if, over the course of my life, i walk passed a couple hundred penny's and NEVER pick them up, then i am only out $2.00. that's my price to pay to not touch something filthy and to not stop and waste my time.

but my main reason:

my kids, like most little kids, love picking up stray pennies and nickels (etc...). so, i leave it for them. they get more joy from one penny than i ever would.

(although, i do pick them up if i am at a register, then i lay them on the counter for someone who might 'need' a penny to make change, or i put in in the charity jar at the counter if there is one.)

that thorough enough?

Yes I pick them up always have and then a few months ago I found this poem.

Pennies From Heaven

I found a penny today,
just laying on the ground.
But it is not just a penny,
this little coin I found.
Found pennies come from heaven,
thats what my Grandpa told me.
He said Angels toss then down,
oh how I loved that story.
He said when an Angel misses you,
they toss a penny down.
Sometimes just to cheer you up,
make a smile out of your frown.
So don't pass by that penny
when you're feeling blue.
It may be a penny from heaven,
that an Angel's tossed to you.

Yes, a penny takes two centsto make, so its worth more than its value. Plus, pennies can accumulate to more money that I may or may not use. And if I can't use the penny, I'm sure someone else can.

Do it one hundred cases and you have earned your self a greenback for unfastened! Do it 10 cases with a dime . . . Do it 4 cases with 1 / 4 . . . desire I say greater? An old English asserting: locate a penny, p.c.. it up, all day long you will have good success. not inevitably real, yet you're a penny richer than previously!

I only pick it up if no one's looking. I don't want to look like I'm needy or greedy. A penny saved is a penny earned.

That's hilarious that people won't pick it up cause it's dirty.
Do people really know how dirty "ALL" money is?
There's been test done that show a large percentage of money is tainted with drugs of some sort.
Cocaine is regularly snorted through rolled up bills.
Think those druggies wash the money after wards? lol

Sometimes, if im not in a hurry. I keep it and put it in the penny box at home, or i just throw it in the closest charity box.

But most of the time i just leave it there. Dunno y, probs cos its kinda dirty (having been on the floor and stuff) and most of the time i have nothing to do with it.

Yes, because pennies make dollars.

Yes -
Why not? Because. I'm Scottish too. It's akin to littering. My kid's through them in the fountain downtown. They're pretty. I like to see if they were made when I was. Abe's profile is so interesting.

I could go on and on.

I am numismatist but it also depends on what kind of ground. If I think it is too dirty and will cause sickly germs to my hand then I may take a second thought about it.
