I have a dog and 3 cats and the ants seem to thing that is their home! So...I got these ant barriers that have a liquid in them so that the ants can't get to them. They really work! We haven't had ants in the pet's dishes in a few years! You should be able to get them at a pet store.

The best way to handle this is by putting the dog bowl into a larger bowl that has water in it. Ants may be able to move rubber tree plants, but they can't swim!

We only have food out at feeding time. If the dogs don't eat it at feeding time it gets put away and no more food is offered until the next feeding time. We store the rest of the food in a large, plastic container made especially for storing pet food and don't have any problems with ants.

They make dog bowls that have a channel for water around them to keep out the ants. I don't remember where I saw them though--Petsmart or Petco?

You gonna deprive the dog of that extra protein? You might try and put the dog dish in a bigger glass bowl or glass plate.

i just did a google search and found a site that said ants will not cross a line of chalk. they suggest drawing a chalk circle around the bowls and for some reason the ants won't cross it. might be worth a try!

Just seal the bowls into plastic bags, and the bugs will bug off! Or, just feed them inside.

Best sit.uation : feed him once or twice a day and put the bowl away. In our area we get the large harmless black ones . The dogs eat them and the food. More proteen for the buck.
