Just looking to save a few $$ - have heard that some off brand batteries work just as well as the name brand canon ones. Can someone link me to a good one? Thanks! :)

Be REALLY careful. Most really cheap off-brand batteries fail quickly. They simply stop charging after a small number of charge cycles. That said, you can find good batteries from Eveready, Duracell, and other VERY REPUTABLE manufacturers for most major Digital Cameras. (Yes, they really DO make special form-factor batteries!).

Look on the web, but stay away from ALL of the "Really Cheap" batteries found on eBay and many websites. Rule of thumb: If the camera manufacturer charges $40 for their brand, then you can probably find a quality 3rd party for 30% less (about $25)... You'll also find the CHEAPO stuff for $7-15 and that is a waste of your money! Consider an example of the Batterybarn.com listing. Canon's is $90 new, OEM (BP511) is $68, and off-brand is $13 (AC511)... if it were me I'd skip the $13 version and get the $68 version!

one million. The digital camera is completely a gadget. Do you quite want a extra physically powerful gadget ? what style of photos are taking ?; - family contributors photos ? stay with your cropped, you do not want extra. - graphics and landscapes/cityscapes ? you're extra advantageous of with a Leica M9 and a 50mm 2.2 or a 12 Voigtlander (for landscapes), lots extra advantageous than any Sonycanikon. - street photos ? => leica. specific this is high priced. yet waw to high quality, portability etc ... - interest/organic international ? Cropped censor with a good lens : a one million.5 cropped censor skill you remodel a 70-200 2.8 in a a hundred and fifteen-3 hundred 2.8. Or a 300 3.2 right into a 450 3.2. that would desire to be nicely adequate. - Weedings, Press, video clips, Candids ? Than you may think of a few 6 or 5D. 2. 6D or 5D : attempt them the two in a keep ... and locate out the only you like the main. BTW the glass is extra substantial than the physique so in case you're on the cheap and you purchase a 6D you have extra area on your budget for a stable lens lens. 3. purchase a digital camera/lens secondhand : cut back the cost once you purchase and once you sell it you unfastened much less funds. some seconhands are minted.

When I bought my 5D, the camera store sold me a Lenmar DLC511 as a second battery. It has worked fine...and the charge lasts at least as long as the Canon battery that came with the camera. (Which is to say it lasts for a VERY long time!)

If the camera is new, don't forget that if something goes wrong they will most likely not honor warranty with a 3rd party battery in the camera. That's an awful lot of camera to take a risk like that!

I've had good experiences with ebay vendors for my rechargeable batteries - if you're not comfortable with ebay, here's an online seller that I've also had success with.

Or if your rather not shop online, you can look for the energizer rechargeable batteries at an electronics store near you.
