I have a Tibetan Terrier which are known as hyperactive and very mouthy dogs as is- ESPECIALLY when they are teethng. What helped us out was distracting our little guy through the use of dog toys, Kongs and a couple other techniques. I think this link will help you out, http://www.whole-dog-journal.com/sample/pre_puppy_preparation.html. Even if your dog is a puppy or not...

Dog Kongs are great for feeding and require your dog or pup to exercise more of a mental effort in the feeding process distractring them from doing more harmfull/compulsive behaviors like chewing on furniture or themselves for that matter.

Well I have a 1 year old Black Lab too and she loves to chew. I believe it is a trait known to labs. LOL But seriously you can buy what is called "Apple Bitter" and spray it safely on whatever she is chewing, even in her mouth to give her a taste for it. She won't like it, in fact our dog all I have to do is show her the bottle and she backs away. Then make sure they have plenty of things they can chew on such as rawhide or better yet pigs ears. Too much rawhide is not good for them our lab tends to eat them and they don't digest then she throws them up. Good luck to you and have fun with your Lab.

Get him something he can chew on. Dogs need to chew, especially puppies. The best thing is to get some chew toys and then teach him that it is only ok to chew on the chew toys. My puppy is about 11 months old and has chewed up my kids toys, pillows and molding on the house. This continued until we bought some ropes and toy animals from petsmart. Make sure you play tug and fetch with him so he knows it is ok to chew on the toys that are his. Rawhide and other chew products will also help.
You can also teach him the "leave it" command. You can look here for some ideas of how to do that.

i have had a lab, they will chew up the walls really. But the thing that we used at the vet's office is called "Bitter Apple", when a dog has to have their legs wrapped, we spray this on it so they will not destroy the dressings. You can find it at any pet store, you can buy a small bottle or the refill. you will be needing the large refill bottle. it is safe for fabric and even wood. you will go through alot of it for the next two years.

People usually see this as cruel, but it works, and usually only takes once. What we did when our dog chewed on all the furniture, was we taped something it chewed on, (like the leg of a piece of furniture) into its mouth. You leave it in for a couple of hours.

You can get some kind of paint that you can wash out, but is very distasteful to dogs. Paint it on some items and leave them as before - nothing out of the ordinary. When he chomps into it, he will stop very quickly. Kinda like giving you a candy (which has a thin coating of ear wax or cayenne pepper on it). I know you will not ask for seconds.

We bought our Yellow Lab this chew toy and it really works well. IMHO I would never give treats for good behavior, only give praise.
