II had seven puppies that I needed to place . I had a reader, dreamjean, she is a wonderful person. I am sorry that she didnt get a puppy, but does she think that taking them to a no-kill shelter is okay? Even if she did not get one?

If you are unable to place them on your own in good homes then this is a good idea. A no-kill will see that they are vetted, take applications for them and try to place in good homes. They normally have strict guidelines for choosing homes.

I think taking the puppies to a no kill shelter is o.k. At least they have a place to sleep and food and water. It's better than them being out on the streets not having food, water or some
attention. They also have a wonderful chance to be adopted by a great family. I've had to do this myself & I felt guilty for a
long time, but deep down I know I did the right thing.

Prob need a little more info on this. Did you not find homes bc no one was suitable? Or did no one want them. If you can find anyone to take them directly into their home that is much better. No kill shelters are good last case scenerio bc shelter life is hard on a dog. They do not get socialized well often learning to fence fight with other dogs. I have 2 shelter dogs and a stray puppy. One shelter dog we got a 6 weeks so she is fine but we had to spend a great deal of time resocializing the other shelter dog that we got at 6 months. There is also many times a long waiting lists at no kill shelters. We tried to take our stray puppy to one bc we only wanted 2 dogs but 5 weeks later she is here to stay with no word back from the shelters. Good luck.

Hey there, I am a Veterinarian Technition and hope to help! Your best bet is to call breed rescue groups to step in and bring your puppies into rescue. If the puppies are pure bred you wil have no problem at all with the rescue groups. Even if the puppies are mixed, most (good) purebed rescues will take in puppies that have a little of their speciality breed. I would advise against any kind of shelter, even no-kill. My reasoning is the diseases (parvo, lepto, kennel cough), worms (whips, hooks, rounds, tapes), and illnesses (upper resp. infections, cherry eye, etc.) that float around shelters that are contageous. I wouldn't want to expose puppies (or any dog) to those situations. Plus, rescues usually have better percentages of placements and are quicker to place than shelters. The reason for this is, many shelters have numerous kennels/cages/runs, therefore, they have many dogs. Rescue groups typically work with foster homes, so your puppies will be temp. placed in a home (which I am sure you prefer) with caring individuals, children, and -a lot of the time- other dogs where they recieve a lot more attention, care, and socialization. Good luck and I hope this helps in your decision! Obviously, you could also run ads in your local paper, bring flyers to vet offices, or post the puppies on petfinder.com with the help of a rescue group. :)

It is better than taking them to a regular shelter that will euthanize them in a week. They deserve a chance to be adopted out and b/c you chose not to get the mother spayed that is your fault. Give them a chance, but keep in mind. generally no kill shelters have a lengthy waiting list to get your animals in to them. Good luck!

Have you tried to sell your puppies through the newpaper, or offer them for free and do interviews?

A shelter, no kill or not, shoudl be a very last resort as it is not a healthy environment for the dog

please have your mommy dog spayed asap as well so this doesn't happen again
