Select your music file then Right click (not the usual left click) and select Custom Animation. You can do this by selecting Slide Show > Custom Animation
Then select Multimedia Settings afterwards and make sure that you have selected Continue Slide show You will then need to set the Stop Playing button and enter in the Stop Playing > After number slides the number of slides that you would like the music to play for.

If you are using PowerPoint XP the procedure is slightly different

Custom Animation > Right Click on Media and select Effect Options You will then need to set the Stop Playing button and enter in the Stop Playing > After number slides the number of slides that you would like the music to play for.

This feature is very nice, for example, if you want to show a long presentation at a trade show.

I hope that this helps

If you just insert a sound without any other settings, you'll find that it stops when you go to the next slide. So how do you insert music or narration that continues throughout the presentation? This is a frequently asked question.

(The instructions here are for PowerPoint 2002 or 2003.)

Follow these steps:

1. Choose Insert, Movies and Sounds, then choose one of the options, such as Sound From File. Locate the sound and insert it. (You see a sound icon, which you can drag off the slide if you don't want it to appear during your presentation.)
2. A message appears asking how you want the sound to play. Usually, you choose Automatically, but if you want the sound to wait for your mouse click, choose When Clicked.
3. Right-click the sound's icon and choose Custom Animation from the shortcut menu. The Custom Animation pane opens with your sound file listed.
4. Click the arrow directly to the right of the sound icon and choose Effect Options. In the Play Sound dialog box, choose the Effects tab.
5. In the Stop Playing section, choose the After XXX slides option. Enter 999 in the box (the largest number allowed) so the sound will play throughout all your slides. Note: PowerPoint counts each display as a slide, so if you show some slides more than once, they count.
6. Click OK to close the dialog box.

Hi, if you are playing a CD, this is quite simple:

STEP 1: Insert==>Movies and Sounds==>Play CD Audio Track==>CLICK ON THE LOOP UNTIL STOPPED OPTION==>choose from TRACK 1 TO TRACK 1 FOR EXAMPLE IF YOU ONLY WANT TO PLAY ONE TRACK.

STEP 2: After you insert the sound, you will see a little CD icon on the slide that you inserted the sound into (HOPEFULLY, YOU USED SLIDE 1 IF YOU WANT TO DO THE SOUND THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE PRESENTATION). Now, RIGHT CLICK the little CD ICON and choose CUSTOM ANIMATION. A little dialogue box should appear on the right and you'll see a drop down arrow. Click the drop down arrow and choose EFFECT OPTIONS==>NOW YOU WILL SEE "start playing" CHOOSE FROM BEGINNING, THEN CHOOSE "STOP PLAYING" AFTER A CERTAIN NUMBER OF SLIDES (IF YOU WISH TO PLAY THE SONG THROUGH THE ENTIRE PRESENTATION AND YOU HAVE 10 SLIDES, THEN CHOOSE "After 10 Slides as the Stop Playing Option." Catch my drift?

Now to get that little CD Icon to go away, just go to NORMAL view, and drag it off the presentation. It will no longer appear on your slideshow. GOOD LUCK!

go into the propertys, and select loop untill stopped, and where it says "play sound:" select [play through slides,]
and so stop it showing select hide through presentation, or alternativly move it off the page so you cant soo it in slide show. hope this has helped, it depends on what version you are using, might be the same but i am using 2007.
