I give him plenty of water. I don't understand why he sheds so much.

Grooming is the only thing that will help. I recommend a comb that I first saw advertised on tv called De-Shedder. They were offered on tv at $14.95 but I found one at the local Big LOTS for $5.00. They take the undercoat off and reduce the amount of shedding.

There are also groomers that will take cats. I am not sure of the costs as I have never used one for my cats.

During this time of year, it is not uncommon for a pet to shed, although excessive shedding is not considered normal and it seems as though your cat is experiencing excessive shedding. As a cat ages, the list of possible ailments grows as well. It would not be uncommon for your cat to have developed Hypothyroidism or Diabetis, in which hair loss/excessive shedding and increased thirst would be a common symptom. Both of these ailments are extremely common for cats, and are very controllable with some wonderful medications your veterinarian can prescribe. I would definately think it may be beneficial to have your kitty physically examined by your veterinarian, and also have a blood test done to check his levels and see if the above ailments are present. Your veterinarian can also prescribe a special diet food which will help shed some of that weight

Not only can it be diabetes, but also your cats sheeding pattern and amount is based on what type of cat it is and how long its fur is as well as if it has a double coat such as a Russian Blue would. If your cat is a mixed breed and has long hair it will probably shed more and shedding will be more noticable than a shorthair cat.

He sheds so much, because he's a cat! It's natural for pets to shed their hair after a cold winter. Brush him daily, and you can bring him to a groomer to get brushed really good and answer any questions you may have- but you don't necessarily HAVE to go to the groomer- just brush!

I've been feeding my cat Nutro's Complete Care dry food and it boasts that it will help reduce shedding. That and he allows me to brush him daily with a shedding blade (circle with teeth) that I got for $5 at the pet store. He loves it and I have a lot less black and white cat hair on my clothes!

Cats shed more at certain times of the year. You need to brush your cat alot and give him hairball remedy, so he doesn't get hairballs in his stomach. It is natural for them to shed. The more you brush him, the less he will shed.

brush your cat and you won't see as much hair in your home. Shedding is natural for all animals, in the summer they need to shed their winter fur to keep them cooler.

You're probably noticing that he's shedding his winter coat, so it gets more visible. Go out and get a flea comb, I find this works best, then comb him, it'll help get out some excess hair. He'll be more refreshed faster.

because spring just started and he is shedding his winter coat. brush him daily and that way his excess fur sheds into the brush and you can throw it out instead of it getting all over your house.

They shed lots this time fo year. What we do is give my cats a garlic pill maybe every other day for a bit and bursh them every day. It works and its the eaisiest way to do it. You can get the pills from any local drug store!
