American pronunciation= Salm (rhymes with palm)
British pronunciation= Som (like Tom)

the difference in pronunciation is just the differences in accents. So either way, it is fine. Just don't pronounce the "P"

According to the dictionary, there are 2 correct pronunciations.
The first is som, and the second is solm. The difference between these is more than likely the region you come from. The "L" can go either way, but the "P" is not pronounced.

The L is not silent in the US, only the P. It is pronounced salm and it is used primarily when referring to the Bible book written by David, Psalms.

the P and L are silent, it rhymes with calm, but some people will often also pronounce the L so it would rhyme with alm (like alma mater or alms for the poor)

Wow! It appears that the pronounciation depends on where you live and who taught you.

I've grown up with it being: salm

Yes, rhyming with palm, calm, and balm.
