Are their any free homeschooling programs other than connections academy?

You can put your own curriculum together if you would like from the library. I myself find investing in materials is well worth it! You can put together different curriculum's using a variety of resources. For example, I use Abeka for basic grammar, Saxon( this year) for Math. Apologia for science, and we have a co-op we are in that covers things like art, public speaking, History and another science class for enrichment. I can't say any of it is free, but I am pretty frugal about getting my resources. Check for used curriculum sales and on eBay. You really need to get hooked up with a local home school support group if you are just starting out. I am in the Central Fl area if I can be of any more help. Just email me.

You can also take PS classes al a cart at your local school, but I found it wasn't worth it. Email for more details.

http://www.amblesideonline.com is one that is free, has many free e-texts and book lists for the library.

Many homeschool groups have curriculum fairs at the end of the year where you can buy curriculum cheap. You can also barter with each other, borrow and use your library extensively!

I would stay away from the virtual acadmey type curriculum, in my book it's just thinly veiled way for ps's to hone in on homeschoolers, have more say in their lives.

the first year with my oldest i used ABEKA only. and now i use all kind of resources. i bought used books that i studied and liked. i have a great encyclopedia (illustrated) that we get alot of our history lessons from, aswell as a barnes n noble history of the world book. you can check out books on subjects your child is interested in and have them read and do reports and experiments. as for literature i just pick a book i would want my child to read and she/he reads a chapter a day and writes a summary on it. spelling and handwriting lessons are from ABEKA aswell as math. but i do alot of drills on math. i just constantly go over things until they are completely memorized and understood. good luck!

Try looking for a virtual academy with the k12 curriculum. www.k12.com You can look at their webpage and look at options for your state. We are in our second year with them and love it.
