I have had acne for years (sine 3rd grade to be exact) I've gone to dermatologists, given up chocolate and sodas, stopped eating greasy food, exercised, took vitamins, used proactive and proactive extra strength. Used Clinique and Este Lauder...I take really good care of my skin. I don't tan. I don't touch it...I wash it 2X a day. Use Oil free moisturizers...I have horrible breakout all over my face...Can anyone tell me what worked for their severe acne?

I recommend to all my clients the Acne Line from Bee-Luscious Cosmetics. It is the best because it contains several different acne fighting ingredients. Most companies only use one or two active ingredients. Also these products will last from four to six months. They use four. Good Luck. BTW I am a skincare professional.

Right now my skin is perfectly clear, for the first time in 3 years. It's been about 9 weeks and all my acne is gone. It is such a great feeling to wake up with clear skin.

I am still dealing with my acne.by the way it not what you eat that gives you acne.it has to do with how you take care of your face. what you wash your face with.it could have some thing to do with hormone changes. you could be going through hormone changes that is what causes acne to. I use Neutrogena Deep Clean Cream Cleanser oil free. I still get acne but not really bad. I do not have acne as bad as did .

I had bad acne during Jr High and High school, then when I joined the military the acne decreased to just the occasional pimple (large ones on the nose though!). So I understand your frustration.

I used Avon Astringent, Clearasil, Oxy5 & 10, various soaps and water, but nothing could control it. In the military, the doctors and dermatologists were good at diagnosing my acne and prescribed Tetracycline to me for several years.

Tetracycline worked for me and definitely controlled it to the occasional pimple - good for my self-esteem and professional image! The only drawback was to minimize my time in the Sun; bullocks to that, I still hit the beaches and lakes in my shorts and without a shirt and all I got was really great tans on my already tanned body.

If you can't get Tetracycline, ask for a similar antibiotic to help control your acne. It controls it but doesn't eliminate it.

Tips:

1. Refrain from "washing" your face and merely "rinse" your face with "warm" water and "pat" dry with a clean towel - refrain from using the same towel before laundry day or you will just be spreading germs you don't want onto your face (e.g., someone else's hand or face may have touched "your" towel); after it's laundered then you can use it again. (You may need to purchase more towels for this to properly work or you may need to increase your laundry days to supply those towels.)

2. Rinse your face as frequently as your day allows you (perhaps once per hour?). This will help control your facial oils and perhaps reduce any new outbreaks of acne. Refrain from using the "first" public restroom (e.g., at school, work, the gym, etc.) paper-towel as someone else has touched it; discard that first paper-towel and use the succeeding ones freely!

3. If you are an active person, and you burn calories via activities, your diet shouldn't play a major factor in your acne since you'll burn off that food intake. But remember to rinse your face frequently during said activities or right afterward because your facial oil and sweat make a great combination for new acne. Self-discipline is key here.

4. Go into the Sun, swim in the ocean, let Nature provide some breezy air to help dry your skin. After your time outdoors, rinse your face to rid it of city dirt (smog, pollutions, et al) and to help control any new outbreaks. Refrain from using those hand-cleaners or moist-wipes as they contain chemicals that might inflame your acne.

5. Go to the Free Clinic, have them thoroughly examine you and your facial acne, and ask if they can prescribe Tetracycline for you (feel free to reject anything like Clearasil or Oxy10 unless it's Retin-A or the like). And then see if they can refer you to a dermatologist(s) who can invest the time and effort to properly help you control your acne.

6. Keep an accurate record of your medical expenses related to your acne, such as receipts for medicines, doctor visits, prescriptions, etc., because you can deduct these expenses from your yearly taxes.

7. Not to be a wise-guy here, but you could join the military (Guard or Reserves or Active Duty) where you can gain access to folks who will care for you and your acne. I found the Air Force to be really good about this. A guy in my basic training class had a real "pizza" face (true statement as I have photos of him) and he saw the military doctor who precribed some meds for him and when we graduated BT six weeks later, his face had cleared up really well. I don't know what he took but I think he could have been well faster had he just avoided touching his face (again, self discipline here). And if you decide to join the military please refrain from saying you're joining for only medical benefits as that will diminish your chances of getting a decent "indoor" job where you can control your acne.

I hope this helps you. I know it sucks having acne now, and since you didn't disclose your age, I presume you're in high school or college. If this is the case, the folks who appear to not have acne are showing you that with self-discipline one can control their acne (these folks just began this discipline at the right time in their lives and were able to control it early, hence, zero to traces of acne on their faces).

i personally don't have severe acne, only mild to moderate, sometime a bit heavier in the summer. However my friend had it pretty bad on her back and she used b5 vitamin. it worked pretty good.

THIS WORKS FAST & CHEAP!!!
I used Tetracycline, Proactive, Retina A and had many expensive facials with less than good results. This has worked for me and many many other happy people.

Go to pharm., Drug store, or Wal-Mart, buy "PURPOSE" bar of soap - Blue box - Made by Johnson & Johnson - wash your face with this 2-3x's per day. Also pick up a LOW strength Benzoyl-peroxide cream, apply the cream by dabbing to the individual blemishes.... DON’T rub it in works using a oxidation/reduction reaction. It will unclog
dry it out and bring it to a head...DON’T over use this or put anywhere else on your face. It will cause drying and make you look worse.

Salicylates such as found in regular aspirin among other products work very similar but also remove layers of skin...other over the counter creams with this product will dry out pimples but maybe too hash and cause surrounding skin trauma..
I have seen many people recommending crushing aspirin and making a paste which probably will dry out the blemish but again pretty strong and probably will cause more tissue damage and bigger scars as an anti inflammatory probably would take the redness out... again pretty harsh for sensitive skin.

Also, If need which probably will for moisture ASK FOR "NUTRADERM lotion" - the original not the new stuff, this works great and wont clog pores or leave a residue on your skin...Any lotion that is completely oil free and hypo allergic should work but again I recommend Nutraderm. I have heard from people online that "Purpose" also makes a lotion that is good, Neutrogena, and Nivea make good products also. I recommend Nutraderm from experience and my dermatologist.

"Purpose Bar" & "Nutraderm" are oil free and hypo allergic they contain no perfumes and are great for both men and women. I have also heard great reports of this soap helping improve skin tone. Some people recommend the "Purpose liquid soap" saying
that the bar did dry out their skin some. The rational behind using the bar is that there are no ingredients in it that will clog pores, and according to dermatologists they recommend the Bar. I have also heard good responses from "cetaphil soap". These products are safe for all skin colors and tones. I highly discourage use of Proactive and other harsh chemicals for people with some natural color in their face due to the bleaching and drying effect it has shown in many many people.

Additional TIPS: acne, pimples, etc are frequently cause by a bacteria or hormone issues that cause clogging of pores. DON’T PICK POP POKE (your hands are the dirtiest part of your body) and will cause: infections, spreading of germs, more breakouts and scarring
DON’T EVER listen to people online who tell you to scrub your sensitive skin or use harsh chemicals such as: Lemon juice, vinegar, alcohol, etc... DON’T EVER use that APRICOT CRAP!!! DON’T USE PROACTIVE- this is expensive and harsh it may kill the bacteria because also Benzoyl based wash but will irritate skin and cause bleaching of face and neck.... Other similar treatments may work.. Also things such as Accutane but have SERIOUS side effects such as Major Depression, & birth defects in unborn children, among others
If you wear make up make sure it is oil free, & hypo allergic...Eating healthy...Drinking plenty of water.. Changing pillow cases freq. ...avoiding dirty sports equip. such as helmets...can not hurt...Acne/pimples again are caused by pores/hair follicles becoming plugged up, this plugging then causes an inflammatory reaction - redness and infection (pimple)..black head is dirt or old oil trapped in pore, while a white head is the same thing you just don’t see the dirt instead you see white pus (lymphocytes that accumulate in the area to fight the infection) It has been shown in many studies this most often not caused by what you eat (chocolate etc... or how clean you are) but most often by either excess oils plugging pores or a bacteria on the skins surface. - Proactive works in some people because it is a strong Benzoyl peroxide based washed but is most freq. to strong
for people with sensitive skin - this is why alot of people get excessive drying and flaking, rashes, bleaching or breakouts from the product. Retina-A does decrease the bacterial growth on your face but also removes dead/living skin, this can work well in some individuals and has been shown to reduce wrinkles and scars but again I feel this is pretty harsh on sensitive skin prone to breakouts. If you choose Retina-A never use this product during the day only at night due to the sensitivity it will give you to the sun. You must also get a prescription for this product and I really don't believe it is worth the damage it does to your skin. In some rare cases for very deep/large boils and cyst types
of pimples oral antibiotics maybe needed but I would first recommend trying "purpose" and a low dose "benzoyl-peroxide cream" along with a good oil free moisturizer "Nutraderm... etc" this does work well.

THIS WORKS FAST AND CHEAP!!! I no longer get expensive facials, take oral antibiotics, or even NEED makeup... I am very happy - Have very good skin... and have many many other happy friends... THANKS again to my WONDERFUL DERMATOLOGIST... TRY THIS!! GOOD LUCK.... PS. "PURPOSE" costs about $3 ---------------------------------------------
