i had my hair dyed a medium brown and the darker roots are growing back. i am italian and have olive skin with brown eyes and and oval face.
should i go darker or lighter?
any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated

I can definitely see some highlights on you in my minds eye. With your eye color, I bet there are some highlight colors that would really enhance your eyes.
Sometimes it helps to go try on some wigs. You'd be surprised just what a surprise you will find when you venture a little bit outside your usual choices. You may try on a wig to make your friends laugh, then discover the color looks GREAT on you. Then you can dye your hair a similar color.

Since you are the one that has to walk around with the color, choose which one you really want. If you are dark skinned, and dark hair, lighter shades will always require additional care. Good luck, and you already know which one you really want to do it!

Darker. Lighter hair would look horribly fake.

since you have naturally dark hair and dark eyes, I would say go for a darker color. If you went lighter, it might look too fake. ;)

I have always liked dark brown or black hair, but if you can find someone who can do good highlights that could look good too. Just make sure it looks natural. If it looks fake then it should be hot pink of something like that.

Just touch up your roots!
After you have done that, then look at your hair & see if you really want another change, or was it just because of the root action.

With your darker skin and eyes, I think darker would be better.
