Wow, so many negative answers, but $300.00 is too much. You can get one a lot cheaper on eBay. My vet got one called a cat condo with a couple platforms & a house on the lower level, only $125.00 you have to shop around, Wal-Mart sells them for $50.00 but they are about 3 or4 ft. high and a little small, not good for a large cat, Don't rush look around you'll find one cheaper. I would love to have one for my cat but don't have any space for it , some are calles "cat gyms" to give them extercize.

...only if you understand that no matter where you put it, your cat will probably use it to gain better access to the curtains that he or she really wants to shred....

It's a lot easier and definitely a lot cheaper to make your own. A piece of 4x4, wrapped in closed loop carpet (screwed to the 4x4, of course, so that it doesn't peel away) mounted on a sturdy piece of wood will satisfy your cat's need to stretch and scratch than any (over)priced fancy shmancy scratching post.

It's the same situation that asks why a cat would much rather play with the paper bag that an (usually) expensive cat toy came in and not the toy itself.

It's up to you, if your cats love to climb it might work. Keep in mind though that they'll love it a while then be done with it, for some reason cats are like that. You can always go for something smaller, and set it on top of a table, then your cat can jump on the table and climb higher, plus it saves you cash.

Expense is relative. Is your cat doing damage to other items in your house? Is your cat indoors all the time and left alone? If so, this might be a good investment for you and your cat to stay happy.

No - buy a plain cat house and a little cat scratch post and should cost you about $30.00 total.

Rather make it yourself, greater creative freedom too.

Rem,ember this is a new object to them since it's not a treestump, so you'd have to show the cat what it's for. They won't just instinctively know, it's about educating the animal.

Yikes. I wouldn't. You can get plans off the internet and build one yourself in a few hours. Add some berber carpeting and viola, a scratching post!

I would say it is rather expensive. I have purchased two in the past year that I like. They are not fancy, but my cats love them. Check out website "http://www.armarkat.com/". They even have free shipping with the continental US.

You can buy TWO cat trees or one cat condo and gym and a cat three for that amount of money.
