I noticed the other day that i have a big black and blue bruise on my upper calf but i did not hit my leg for it to be there, it just appeared. What could have caused this?

you could have hit it and not known about, maybe done something in your sleep, and pulled the muscle and broke a couple capillaries. Just one is nothing to worry about. But if you see a lot of bruises over a short period of time that appear out of nowhere, that is something to be concerned about.

alot of time people hit a part of their body and dont even know it, they dont even think about it, so most likely it was something you accidently ran into but have no memory of. It can also be from putting too much strain on it, or if you cramped up it could be from that.

you probably hit it you just don't remember. It takes a few days to get black and blue

You most likely did bump into something and didn't even realize it, because it was not painful at the time you bumped into the object. Normal and nothing to worry about.
