Other than destruction and wishing to die for their 'God' or country - there are no other similarities.
During Pearl Harbor, the Japanese pilots flew their planes from one destination point to another. During 9/11 the morons commandeered air born planes (full of passengers) to arrive at a destination point.
Pearl Harbor was bombed on a Sunday morning with tons of military personel sleeping.
9/11 was bombed on a weekday with people at their desks working.
With Pearl Harbor, and after a war, the Japanese surrendered. With 9/11, the rest of the morons (who were brainwashed like those who commandeered the planes) are still running around causing trouble with possibly no end in sight - that we know of.

In both cases we were attacked by air. The attacks were made in behalf of a soverign nation at Pearl Harbor and by a bunch of thugs in 9/11. One big difference, however must be considered when discussing the difference between the two.
In the case of the Pearl Harbor attack we actually declared war on the nation that attacked us. In the 9/11 we attacked someone else.
It is sort of like Bob attacks Jim and so Jim goes to war against John. Where with Pearl Harbor Bob attacks Jim and Jim goes to war with Bob not John.

One similarity no-one has mentioned. The number of deaths was similar. The big difference is the response. Pearl harbour - decisive. 9/11 - (I`ll let you decide).

On similarity is the fact that we tried to stay out of both conflicts before the attacks.
WW2-Our country decided to remain neutral during the beginning of the war. On 12/07/1941, we were attacked.
9/11-Our country decided to stay out of conflicts or leave before the job was done during the threat of Alqaida. Our country and it's embassies were attacked 4 or 5 times by Al Qaida. Still we stayed out of it. On 9/11/2001, we were attacked.
Those are the main similarities.

Japenese air raids and American airplanes hijacked by terrorists.
There was some sort of communications to "us" right before the attacks.
Many of the victims of both attacks remain submerged or buried in the rubble.
Nearly 3000 people were killed.
Both places have become museum-esque landmarks.
Japenese and Muslims were rounded up in some fashion.

They were both surprise attacks by foreign elements. The biggest thing they have in common, aside from the casualties, is the fact that neither event should have been a surprise.

Depending upon which theories you follow, both were allowed to happen by the president to get the country into a war. Both resulting wars happened after/durring a depression in the economy. Both were successful, and killed a lot of people.
