I've used broken-back or jointed plugs (top-water) and in a school they nail the H _ _ L outta' them. All of the above responses to your question are good but at times ya' just got ta' find out what their wantin' ;)...

Popping a Striper Swiper near the school will drive them crazy whether shad are around or not.

Check your local laws to see what live bait you can use. Live bream are against the law around here.

I have caught strippers with bream, perch, bass and crappie in their stomach, basically they will eat anything that swims that they can swallow. They also eat their own species.

almost any thing, like spinner baits worms salted or not, fake minnows or live minnows
