I'm getting abit confussed to now! lol' but I do know the longer your off the drink the easier it becomes to lead a happy life sober..you just might not see it just yet! : ) God might be coming into your life to help you! there is nothing wrong in becoming religious it's probably your way to a decent life! Good Luck! I wish you all the best! I'm actually going to go to an aa meeting tommorrow hoping to get something from it...& a prayer wouldn't go a miss too! try anything! ; )

Maybe (read: certainly) God has been reaching out to you for some time now and just recently in ways that you can't avoid or ignore. Sometimes, in order to get our attention He will let us get into a place where there is no place left to turn.
Nobody is born a Christian. Nobody is ever good enough to be a Christian. But that is the beauty of it; it is a free gift because God knew we couldn't ever earn it. He desires only one thing, for us to be close to Him, now and for eternity. Jesus was/is God in the flesh. He had to be in order for His sacrifice to atone for our sins would be a perfect one before God, the Father. He did it all right so that all that we do/did wrong is righted. Read the Gospel of John. The first chapter explains it all. Jesus is the Word of God. God loves you and did everything possible to mend the rift between the two of you.(John 3:14-18) It is up to you to acknowledge Him for who He is and acept that gift. So beware of those that say you have to do this or that to get to heaven.
Once you have accepted Jesus as your savior the relationship starts. He promises that, if we follow Him and make Him Lord of our lives, His burden is much lighter than that without Him. Like any relationship, communication is the key. Becoming familiar with the Bible is God revealing Himself to you and praying is you revealing yourself to both of you... and giving Him the glory He is due (first and formost).
It is an awsome thing when the living God of creation starts opening your eyes and tending to your heart. No high out there can compare.
BTW, it is not religion, but many religions try to involve it. It is reality. We have to accept the whole Bible, not just the parts that are convenient for us...and that is where many religions fail.

I'm an Atheist too and i've never had feelings like this but i've always told myself that if i ever doubted my faith (or should i say no-faith) then all i have to do is think of a few religious icons and events e.g. David Koresh, Charles Manson, Money Grabbing T.V. Preachers, Money Grabbing Mormons, Boring Sanctimonious Jehovah's Witnesses,The Crusades, Salem Witch Trials, Adolf Hitler (allegedly a CHRISTIAN!), Al Qaida, Bigoted & Perverted Catholic Priests, Northern Ireland's troubles, several other wars fought over disagreements concerning religion and every other despotic nutter who claims to be a good God -fearing man while massacring his own people. Religion is the biggest contributing factor to the fact that there will never be world peace and that's why there's no fear of myself turning religious. Atheism is the only way to achieve a peaceful world. So go and pour yourself a nice beer and celebrate your atheism in the knowledge that the next war or religious conflict has got nothing to do with you or me.

Im not a Jehovah's Witnes, but I have studied with them. If I where to become a christian which im also thinking of becoming I will definately study again with Jehovah's Witnesses. They have no pagan beliefs, no trinity, no hell, everything you learn is from the bible not from tradition.
Anyway, I have been an atheist for a long time too, but I always test my belief and science, I think there actually is a God, I think it is Jehovah, the God of Abraham of old israel and father of Jesus. Anyway, good luck in your search!

At John 6:44 it says,"No man can come to me unless the Father, who sent me, draws him;" Jehovah knows what is deepest in a person’s heart. He can cause a person to hear about Christ, directing situations, making opportunities arise, such as Jehovah's Witnesses knocking at your door. He can open blind eyes and help people understand Bible truths.
Here is a link to some articles that you might find interesting

It discusses the question, can science help you find God. And like was mentioned, pray. If you are sincere in wanting to know the truth about him and his existance, he will make it known to you.

Sounds like you're confused. But I understand where you are coming from. It's easy to get lost in your own questions and even in religion, you can make the answers fit. But I'd suggest that you step back from it, just far enough for you to get the questions straight first. Write them down and think about Why you are getting those questions. Then look for the answers. Be honest with yourself first... the rest will fall into place. =)

I’ll probably get ripped a new butt hole for saying this, but…Have you ever noticed that most people that have a close relationship with Jesus don’t look for things to make life worth living/satisfying. Maybe God is tugging at your heart, maybe he’s trying to draw you closer to him, he is your help if you believe in him or not. It doesn’t hurt to get to know him, read his word (Bible), maybe visit a church, read that book, or watch a Christian TV program, then make the decision for yourself. Don’t worry about what I say or anyone else, follow your heart. And if you decide it’s not what you’re looking for you’ll know for yourself and not just by what you’re told.

If the JWs have started making sense to you, then you may already be beyond hope...
But seriously, you are obviously coming out of a traumatic time and are looking around for help. The thing you need to remember is that there's no point swapping one crutch (drink) for another (religion). Take this opportunity to stand on your own and create meaning for your own life.

*Slaps spirit of radio across the face* Snap out of it!! Remember all the complete nonsense that is taught by religion, all the completely vague things that are said in the bible, all the narrow mindedness!! The Jehovas pamphlet made sense because it was made that way! Bet it said nothing about them not celabrating Christmas or Birthdays!! (I know Christmas is about Jesus but I believe in the commercial side of it not the religious)
