A lake is usually large and made by the earth's glaciers melting a long time ago or a crater. An example of a glacial lake would be the any of the Finger Lakes in Ny State. Ponds can be man-made and aren't usually made by glaciers, but are not as deep, and are much smaller in size, they can happen when flooding occurs.
