I work in an office where I supervise student workers. I have one student worker who doesn't speak to the main boss when he speaks. Either she is talking and distracted is mostly what it seems like. I wonder if as her supervisor I should bring it to her attenttion to make sure she speaks to him

Normally, I would suggest that it is improper to point out other people's poor manners to them, but I'm making an exception in this case. Especially since you are her supervisor, and are in a training environment - I think that you should mention it. Be very discreet, so that the conversation is just between the two of you. Preferably, talk with her right after an incident, so that you can be very specific.

More than likely, she is unaware of her actions. Some people just need to be told these things! Especially in a corporate environment. You can bet that the boss notices!

She will probably be thankful for the advice.

Good luck!

Is this her first job? She may not be aware of how to respond/behave with supervisors and bosses.

You can sit down with her and the other student workers and tell them about office etiquette.

Another idea would be to have an employee procedure/handbook and have the students read and sign a release form that they read it.

Are they there to learn? Are they being punished? What does the main boss say to her? Does he talk to others?

What is she supposed to be doing? Talking and distracted isn't in many job descriptions.

Make sure she speaks with him, but don't let the student know that it was you who said something - you don't want to be known as "the rat"

That question wasnt a question, I fear you submitted before it was finished, perhaps try again. Woudlnt it be ruder for her to speak while the boss was speaking? I dont get it....

Gotta send out an anonymous memo. That way, everybody is offended and you pretend you are too. That way, you hear the gossip and have fun.

I don't really see the question here? If maybe you could clarify I could try to help :-)
