he just has a high matabolism that all. Don't worry, my doctor told me let him eat what he wants to, and he'll eat when he's hungry. The reason he doesn't weigh that much is b/c he has a high matabolism, and some kids are so high they eat all day and night and don't gain much weight at all. Hope this helps its what my doctor told me!!!

First - I know it's hard, but try not to worry. And second, not everyone gets one of those chubby babies that you can squish their cheeks and thighs. Now for the more serious...
If his height and weight have been keeping at about the same gap - like height has been 50% and weight has been 5% - then he is doing well for him. If the height stays the same and weight goes down or height continues to increase (not just 1 dr visit) and weight stays the same, then you should look into it more.
ALL kids go through a picky stage. Try not to look at what he is eating in 1 meal or 1 day, but for the week. When you look at it then you will probably see he is getting all the good stuff he needs. Not sure if you know, but a toddler portion is only about a tablespoon. That seems very small to us, but the have small tummies. Even with that, for I don't know how long it seemed like out eldest lived on bread, milk and juice and not much else.
My daughter was a chunky 8 lbs 3 oz at birth, but she quickly lengthened out and until recently maintained a 75% height and a 10% weight. She is now almost 4 and is getting to the 25% (but still at the 75% for height). She eats all the time and is very high energy. It just looks like she will be thin. When I go back and look at infant pics I am amazed at how scrawny she looks to me.
Take care - you all will do great!

I am not surprised to hear your son is refusing eggs and avocado. My son wont touch them either! He takes a bite and spits it right back out! (Can't say I blame him on the avocado though, that's something that's not too good all by itself)
have you introduced dairy yet? my son is also 13 months and he loves whole milk yogurt and whole milk. It is pretty high in "good fat." Might be something to try. You could buy vanilla flavored whole milk yogurt (be warned, it has more sugar than plain) but it tastes almost like frosting. Your son will probably gobble it down.
Something else I give my son is a lightly toasted bagel with cream cheese...another high-fat favorite. :)
Good luck! I know how frustrating it can be!
**by the way, in reference to the peanut butter suggestion...The American Acadamy of Pediatrics states the earlist recommendation for introducing peanut butter it 3 years of age because of the risk of severe allergic reactions.

As long as your doctor isn't concerned, try to relax about it. I understand - my first son was very thin - never had that chubby baby look - and I was so worried to the point I'd read the labels of baby food jars and pick the ones iwth the highest fat content! My second son was very chubby, and then my daughter very very thin. Anyways, the point being some babies/toddlers are just not chubby. But I can assure you as long as your doctor isn't concerned, and he is active and meeting milestones, he will be fine. My son is 6 now, still skin and bones, but healthy as a horse. Its just his build. Hope this helps!!

i really wouldn't worry about it....and i'll tell you why...
i tried everything to get my daughter to gain weight, everything! she never did..she will be 5 yrs old in july and she is 28 lbs. Dr said she is as healthy as any other 5 yr old that weighs 40 lbs..she's just petite! so that was my answer..petite.. i could honestly feed her nothing but fatty foods and she doesn't gain a pound...if the dr thinks there is a problem, i'd be worried. but since he doesn't ..i'd keep offering him the exact same things you are doing and all of a sudden he'll go through a growth spurt and eat like a horse, just like my girl. he's active and healthy and he won't starve himself. Good job ...keep it up!

you have a doctor for a reason!!! if your doc said your child had a disease, you'd believe him and act quick. well your doc is telling you it's a phase, so believe him!! also you can give him pb& j on whole wheat bread, or peanut butter crackers. i've never known a child to turn down that snack, which is riddled with protein and carbs. also your son was born with low weight, so he's on a diff. scale than others. dont worry my brother who was born at 5lbs was a skinny kid all this life, we called him mogli from the movie, Jungle Book. lol but now he's 19, HUGE, solid man at 5'7. so relax!!

your doing all the right things, he'll get there, children go thru times when all they do is eat and other times when they barely eat at all, keep offering healthy choices, he'll start eating them, don't worry
