Pretty much nothing would stop people from achieving their own infinite happiness. Whether or not their own children were burning in Hell. I guess you don't need principles when you're looking out for #1.

Just because someone puts God first in their life does not mean that they ignore everything else.

Matthew 22:36-39 states:

"Teacher, which commandment in the law is the greatest?"

He said to him, "You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and the first commandment. The second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself."

We are commanded to obey both commandments not just the first one.

With love in Christ.

A person's first obligation is to make it to Heaven. He/She must then bring as many people with them. A person that is loyal to God will be tremendously loyal to their family. It may not appear that way, but it is true. A Christian will often show loyalty to his family through prayer and love. Especially as the children become older. Words and advice can often drive them away from religion since teenagers go through a very self indulging and rebellious stage.
It sounds to me like you think your parents have left you by the curbside. Stop-look at your own actions and be honest with yourself. Ask your parents if they pray for you. I'll bet they do every day.
I'll even guess that you don't want to hear that. You probably like complaining about them, getting up on your soapbox, spewing discontent to anybody that will listen.
I hope that isn't the case, but I'll add you to my prayer list anyway.

A lot of people have it all wrong. We are to look to God first, but we are never to neglect our own family. In taking care of our family we obey the commandments of God. The bible says that he who does not provide for his own is worse than an unbeliever. God must be placed first IN the family so that God becomes APART of the family. We do not throw away the family in order to embrace God. If a choice must be made between God and family because the family will not accept the presence of God, then God must take precedence. Each person is responsible for his/her own salvation. It is foolish for a person to throw away his/her reward to accommodate an unbelieving family member. There comes a time in every believer's life when he/she will have to make a decision between God and family. God must come first. If the family chooses to follow suite, then fine. If not, then they get left behind.

The Bible tells us to put God first. What it does not do is tell us to treat our family as dirt. Based on the principle of God first, everything else in our lives will be taken care of properly, the sad part is a lot of People Put themselves before God and then God before their Family and never allow their family into their lives. That is probably what you are observing. It is not fair to judge all by the acts of a few.
With God first and foremost the rest will fall right into line.

The Holy Bible teaches Christians to love the Lord with their heart, soul, and mind. Love for God is the ultimate goal of any Christian believer. It does not mean that we should not love our family, friends and neighbors but rather nothing shall stand between God and a believer. The Ten Commandments is very specific about it. The first four is love for God while the last six is love for fellowmen.

I wish you could tell me who you get your information from. God is important to every Believer. If my family rejects God then I did a poor job as a father. But should that happen, if my children chose another God or no God. I would still love them and we would just understand that we differ. Some religions literally shun that type person and cut them totally off.
Would you give up your belief in no God? If your mate said it's me or your belief choose--what would you do?
1love God
2 love you family
3 love your neighbor
4 love yourself

It's not infinite happiness we're trying to reach. It's eternity with the one who created us that we want. I love the one who made me first because He takes care of everything. If your life was on the line and God came along and said I will save your life, if you just love me, would you do it? Or would you turn your back and trust someone you love to save you? Someone who doesn't have the power to save you?

I have struggled with the story of Abraham a lot because if God came to me and said, "I need you to kill your son for me" my first reaction would be to say no. But to disobey the one who could take me from this world, from my family, I'd have to say, "I'll trust you God" That's just what Abraham did and he was rewarded for it. Blessed for his days.

I couldn't imagine my son not knowing the Lord, but if it is part of God's plan, then I have to trust in knowing that it is all for a reason. I trust in Him and he takes care of me and mine.

God first.
Everything else after that.

"Large crowds were traveling with Jesus, and turning to them he said: "If anyone comes to me and does not hate his father and mother, his wife and children, his brothers and sisters—yes, even his own life—he cannot be my disciple. And anyone who does not carry his cross and follow me cannot be my disciple. " Luke 14:26-27

In retrospect by putting God first then the person will have the ability to truly love their family; afterall even while on the cross Jesus took care of his mother by asking the apostle John to be there for Mary and by asking Mary to be there for John; thus showing concern for the void his mother felt in losing Jesus Christ.

"When Jesus saw his mother there, and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to his mother, "Dear woman, here is your son," and to the disciple, "Here is your mother." From that time on, this disciple took her into his home."

John 19:26-27

Feel free to read the preceeding chapters of each verse, so as to get a better understanding of the text.

Hope this helps to shed some light to your initial question

You surely dont understand. A Christian is to love God with all their heart and mind. We are to put noone above Jesus Christ. think on this. If I believed and had a father or a husband that says its nonsense, and I cared more what they thought, than God, I would be in trouble, huh?
NO, We are to put God above all things, including our own selves.
But, we are called to love everyone, and be kind, and forgiving. and kind and gentle, telling all about Jesus becaue He loves them and so do we. Its not our own happiness that we press on for, it is doing what God says that leads to salvation and yes happines,s, peace and joy for ourselves.
But, if ppl are using this to be mean to others then they arent really Christian. God calls us to love and be good to everyone, tho we arent to be a doormat to anyone. We have a job to do for the Lord, and hard to do if you are being beaten down all the time. A Christian, a true Christian will take strong stands for God, and stand no matter what, even if it means death. But, it never leads to being mean to anyone.
Any specific questions to tell us more why you think this.
Just curious.
