I have a Shimano SRAM X-7 rear derailer, and it is not working properly. When I click it into 8 the gear is actually in 9. When I click to 9, nothing happens. Also when I am in lower gears, the gears keep popping when i try to accelerate. I think it is because the alignment is off on the derailer, but i am not sure. I was wondering how I might be able to adjust this so that it works properly.

Thanks

It sounds like your cable might be too tight, or your derailleur limit screws are out of adjustment, or even possibly the derailleur hanger is bent. All of these are best handled by a professional.

Time for a trip to the shop.

Nothing here said would properly describe what must be done. You're better off either taking it to a dealer or having someone knowedgable show you in person how to do it. To actually see it done is to know how to do it yourself the next time!
