I was at a restaurent today and put a little hot sauce on my meal. After about 5 minutes i noticed i didnt put the cap on the bottle all the way and that the actual sauce was leaking and bubbling out from the loose cap!!! I just want to make sure that this is normal i guess and not something that means possible food poisoning or something else strange! Has anyone else ever had this happen to them?

I've never had that to happen; I think your hot sauce may have gone bad.

The only time I've had that happen to me was when I was making hot sauce by heating the peppers in oil in the microwave. The oil was expanding. Did your hot sauce sit in a sunny place? It could have been fresh salsa that was fermenting in which case it was going old though usually that is served in a dish not a bottle. You're still alive, so it wasn't tooo bad.

One of the ingredients in most hot sauce brands is vinegar. Vinegar will cause it to bubble but not fizz. It depends on the chemical reaction with other ingredients. I wouldn't think that your hot sauce is bad as long as it isn't expired and you keep it refrigerated.

Vinegar will fizz when mixed with baking soda, two common ingredients in bath fizz balls.
