The reason I ask this question is I was talking with a friend whos baby was being baptized by the sprinkling of water and I asked them what the Biblical precedent for that was. My understanding was that baptism was reserved for believers and to be done by immersion.

I'd have to say messianic judaism.

a non denominational church is best in my opinion,, but I grew up Methodist,, was sprinkled (holy water) as a baby,, we had a minister,,, moved at age 11,, joined a baptist church and was baptized at age 12,, given the Geneva Bible, by the preacher,,,,,, the revival thing with Falwell, Robertson,, Swaggert,, and Billy Graham (who I really liked) took off and people started getting "the religion", big time,,,,, next thing I knew,, everybody,,started telling me that the KJV,,,,,,
(King James Version, a re-writing of the original Geneva Bible,, by a king, in 1911,, who condoned his own mother's Be-Heading,,, Mary Queen of Scots)
,,,,, bible was the only one to have,,, with the book of Revelation,, the Rapture,, then the born-again thing was all the rage,,,, (and getting right with the lord),,,, if your not right with the lord, you'll go to hell,,,, sure,, sure,,, so all my wonderful ancestors could not have gone to heaven,,, no,,
I will never,, never,, ever believe such nonsense,,,,, I never wanted to be born-again,, I believe that I was born right the first time,,, my spiritual relationship with God is just fine,,, and
I still read and treasure my original Geneva Bible.

I honestly don't know. What's interesting is that there was no New Testament when Jesus was walking the earth, or immediately afterward. The first gospels weren't written until several decades after his death, which means that the first followers of Christ weren't expected to believe literally in all of these books that now comprise the NT, some of which THEY were in the process of writing!

Jesus did quote the OT though, and did so with the utmost respect.

Jesus seemed to put a good deal of emphasis on loving God and each other and generally being selfless. He said that following him would be an act of sacrifice, and stressed giving to the poor and didn't seem too fond of material wealth. Today, it seems that the only thing preachers ask us to sacrifice are our money for donations, fish on Fridays, and sex. Somehow, today's Christian leaders have turned sex into something evil, even though it's about as natural as eating or defecating. But making seven figures and never caring about anyone else? Apparently Jesus is just fine with that according to today's preachers!

I think a true life following Jesus would require self-sacrifice to the utmost extent, which is why Jesus said that the path to life is narrow, and only a few find it.

I've been in many different churches and I would have to say the Plymoth Brethren. BTW Jesus never taught us to worship God in a church service, there is no such thing as a worship service in the Church taught anywhere in the Bible. That concept is less than 30 years old.

One that claims to not be a denomination. One that claims simply to be THE CHURCH. One that calls others to this same unity of faith founded only on the New Testament.

YOU are right. Biblical baptism IS by immersion and IS for believers; for the remission of sin. Babies don't need to be baptized.

A division of something that isn't supposed to be divided can not teach the whole truth. It can teach partial truth and can only lead to a partial conversion. If you are serious about your salvation then you will have to be more diligent in seeking the truth.

All organized religions totally mock the fundamental teachings of all the great instigators. No Christian denomination even comes close to the original premise Jesus of Nazareth posed as the cornerstone of all who follow Love!

St. Peter who was one of Jesus's disciples started the Catholic Church so I HOPE that he knew what he was doing and did it the way Jesus would have wanted it.

I don't think 1 religion will get into heaven and another won't. I think God is a loving God and will judge us all based and what kind of PERSON we are and how much we contributed to this life - for the positive.

I strive to be the kind of person who others feel that THEIR LIFE is BETTER for having known me.
