MOT is a to show that the car is fit to be driven on the road..they check all the Lighting equipment is working on the car..headlamps front and rear..hazard lights etc.. They check the Steering and suspension and the brakes etc your tyres and wheels and Seat belts and general stuff like the horn and exhaust emissions and windows and general vehicle condition..well that's in UK anyway..they should give you an MOT inspection check list after the test

The purpose of the M O T is to make sure the car is in a safe condition to be on the road. They check the brakes steering lights and suspension. You cannot tax or insure the car without a valid M O T you cannot legally use the car without it.
