Prayer is kind of like voodoo. It only works on those who believe it.

PPl like you amaze me, you ask questions that have no common sense. The question, who do we know prayer works, because we see it and have it all the time, even in situations where science cant explain it. When you see someone pronounced as terminal, and there is NO hope, and after many ppl prayer, that person suddenly is healed and there is no disease at all.. you know. Besides God tells u, it works. But, we cant be in the middle of sugruy , out cold, and pull out a Bible at pray. Why do you ask thinks you assume will stump us or irritate us. we just forgive you and know you dont know truth and it scares you. BUt, what if we prayed before surgury and what if while we are in sugury, others are praying for us? NOW that makes sense. If y ou want real answers to real questions, bring them on, God has all the answers to every question you ask.

of course if you pull out a bible and pray during surgery, it won't work. Pull out any other book and stop, it wouldn't work. This is a pretty stupid question, look for a better one. Someone who is smart will pray before the surgery. If surgery doesn't work, even though you pray, it's okay, people die, its nature.
G-d doesn't make things happen out of no where, you have to work really hard for it. He will instruct you how to do things. Read Exodus, there will be a lot of examples. If one prays to G-D for a good grade on their test, but never open the book, do you blame g-d or your self. G-d does answer our question, but sometimes we are too blind to see them.

No one I know of pulls out a Bible to pray.
As far as whether or not prayer works, I can look at a lengthy paper trail that details how God has answered specific prayers over the past few years.

Statistically, praying for stuff doesn't work.
But, to defend their position people who pray tend to say that "god always answers prayers but sometimes the answer is no or sometimes you have to wait for the answer".
Therefore,
If the prayer is answered that is consider a success.
If the prayer is answered differently then that is considered a success.
And if the prayer is answered as asked or differently but anytime after the prayer is made then that is considered a success.
Therefore, any and all responses to prayers are considered "hits".
Shrug ...

You can pray whenever and wherever you want and you don't need a Bible to do so, yes in surgery you can pray and if you have faith it will work. If you are the one being put under then pray before it knocks you out.

The Lord works in mysterious ways. However, I would say the idea that prayer works comes from the fact that it gives people hope. Speaking about illness and injury any doctor would tell you that recovery is always better when the patient believes they will be healed.

If you are in surgery, it means that you already chose a different method than prayer for resolving your issue. It's not advisable to contradict yourself.
You can pray for a successful surgery; but ultimately it's up to the patient if they want to live or die.

They are doing scientific studies on this type of thing. Having people pray for those in the hospital, some with fatal diseases (cancer) others just going thru minor surgery. In one such study, it showed that those that were prayed for actually got worse in their condition.
I'm sure, though, that people will say "that's mocking God... that's tempting God... Gods foolishness is greater than man's wisdom... etc..." (oops, does that one paraphrased verse suggest that God could be foolish?)

god doesnt answer your prayers right away. for example- if someone is having trouble with an alochoholic parent and they pray that the parent would stop drinking, god might continue to let the parent drink for years! there's a reason for everything. none of us always know the answer, but just because yoou pray and your prayer doesnt get answered, doesnt mean god isnt there. he has a reason for everything.

It's not about that. It's about the will to live. What you believe in is what weighs heavy in controlling your life, right? What you give out to the world is what you get back. When you think negatively and stress out about things, you're changing the chemicals that come out of your brain which are toxic and attack your body. So if you are happy and believe, you're releasing healing chemicals........therefore, prayer works.
