I take a guaifenesin (a mucous-thinning herb from a Floridan plant) tablet once a day (mid-meal, to prevent stomach irritation), usually in the evening. Until I discovered it, I was for most of my life a constant throat-clearer and nose-sniffer, trying in vain to get rid of the phlegm. It's in health food stores under the name Air Power and it also comes in cough syrups called Naturade.

Either drink or gargle sage leaf tea. It acts on the mucous membranes and is especially beneficial when you have a cold or bronchitis.
If you dont like the taste, add a slice of lemon and a spoon of honey to the pot.
