Methodist is kind of Catho-lite. Although it is technically a Protestant church (so it's not exactly Catholic), the Methodist churches I have attended perform many of the traditions of Catholicism (minus the Saints and kneeling) in very similar forms. It's a very structured service. Other Protestant churches may share some rituals, but I haven't seen any that were as close as Methodist.

Methodists are a prodestant group that came away from the catholic church once the printing press was invented and people got there own scriptures realised that the clergy of the Catholics were not following there own doctrine.
Furthermore the Methodist church is hard to pin down to be doctrunally sound because they can create there own rules in almost any church.
The only difference is that the Catholiocs claim to carry the Melchezidic priesthood and the keys to the ministry and be the only true church of God and claim there first pope to be Peter in the bible which is missleading and wrong.
I have found through my research that the only church that I have found to be true is the Church of Jesus Christ ofLatter Days Saints and they can prove there athority and the spirit backs the church.
It is a promise in the book of Mormon that if you read it and ask God in the name of Christ if these things are true he will manifest it to you through the holy ghost.
That will save you researching tons of churchs and differences

The Catholic Chuch was founded by Jesus. The Methodist Church was founded by John Wesley.
There are other differences -- but that is a pretty big one.

Methodists are Protestant. Emphasis on the Scriptures
Roman Catholics (if that's what you mean) place their emphasis on the Mass (The Sacramental Presence of Jesus Christ in the Holy Eucharist)

Well, the Catholics use to sell pieces of livestock bones and claim them to be the bones of Christ. They picked up a lot of followers and money that way. When they were finally caught onto by some guy, think his name was John Calvin. Well he and his brother, put the word out about that and some other stuff the Catholics were doing like selling pardons from Christ(only a priest could do the selling) and other chit like that. Many got mad and started following big John, who promised that in his church they wouldn't do most of that stuff anymore.

there is a difference in the understanding of the Sacraments, particularly in the Eucarisht and Ordination.
Also, the Church Heirarchy and autonomy are very different.
