Food to avoid in case of high triglyceride
From: Shashi
Question: My husband has high triglyceride, we live in U.S. A. (around 400) would like to know how to reduce this to normal, does it make a huge difference when the blood was drawn, doctors, drew his blood around 4:00 p.m. I know normally they draw blood after 12 hours fasting. Nurses told us it would not make a huge difference. Please suggest, food habits, diet and food to avoid
Ans: Unsaturated vegetable oils such as corn, safflower, Soya and olive oil should be used for cooking. Saturated fats such as margarine, ghee, butter, coconut oil, and cream should be avoided. Substitute fish and fowl instead of meat from pork and beef. Avoid prawns, crab, oyster, egg yolk and all organ meat. Green leafy vegetables, fruits, cereals, skimmed milk and lean meat should be the main items of the diet. Sugar intake should be reduced. Include oat bran, wheat bran in diet. Regular exercise is also useful.

Processed meats like bologna, hot dogs, Polish sausage, Kielbasa will drive your triglycerides off the chart. Make sure you do not eat any of these types of foods within a week of a blood test to get an accurate test.
