As others have said it is too early for a mom to quit nursing and you say she has milk. I cannot stress how important it is for you to take her into the vet to be checked--now!

First, there is a situation known as milk fever as the milk becomes poison to the pups as she has an infection. She will not nurse. Mother Nature is awesome!! She will know there is a problem and will refuse to nurse. This is not a rare situation as we have seen many nursing moms with this. You have no way to know if all the placenta was voided and nothing left inside to cause infection. There are things that can go wrong with the mom and put the litter at risk.

Time to load up mom/litter and get them to vet to make sure of what is going on. Those pups can dehydrate quickly. Yes, you will have to take over with a bottle. There are milk replacers. Avoid the dry/mix with water kinds like the plague. Your vet should have the approved formula that you can make yourself, ask!

Your vet can also advise about the bottle nursing situation. If she is indeed sick and does not want to interact with pup, which is normal, then you have to "burp" the pups after using the bottle as they suck air just like a human baby!!Many vets forget to tell folks that. Also use a moist cloth to clean the pup's privates to encourage and stimulate them to potty. This is what mom does when she licks them. Make sure any formula is warm!!They cannot digest the formula if cold. They must be kept warm and cozy too.

Hopefully, she will be alright and the pups. But wouldn't you feel like a good pet owner to make sure. Infection can kill.

I'm assuming you are taking on the nursing of these pups, as they are far to young to start on solid foods. Plain milk will not be enough either. Supplement milk is a must. Its possible that the mother may be drying, or dried up already. That very well would account for her not nursing. If not she will dry up on her own. Its a nature thing.

some pit bulls do this and sometimes it's because she has other distractions.sometimes they just aren't good mothers with the first litter.work with her.put the puppies on her nipples and let her lick them to allow them to urinate.then make her lay there until they nurse.sometimes this works even if you have to do it several times a day.we have had to do it once with our first time moms.remove her from any other distractions and she will have no other choice.also look at her nipples to see if they are in pain.you may have to take them all to the vet to see what's wrong with them.

Why isn't she still nursing? The pups are far too young to be weaned.

the milk will dry up on its own, but please know that puppies that young need to be nursed by mom and if not the bottle fed by you. they can not be weined until atleast 5wks when they start eating solid/mosistened food.

YOU NEED TO TAKE HER TO THE VET. IF THE MILK IN HER BREASTS SETTLES THEN IT COULD SOUR AND CAUSE HER TO DIE, IT HAS HAPPENED TO ONE OF OUR ROTWALLERS BEFORE.
