I've been told instead of cleaning my ears the ear buds have actually been pushing the wax further in, the doctor prescribed me some olive oil drops that make no difference, anything else i could do rather than having them syringed (as that sounds a tad scary)

how long have you been using the drops for? they can take up to 2 weeks to work, its because they builk up the wax inside your ears until its discharged spontaneously. i can assure you that they do work, you just have to patient, and remember that initially you may think its making the problem worse (as your ears can feel blocked because the ear wax is building up inside), however, it will soon come out.
syringing is not that scary either... its just water at high pressure, but it is better not to have to do that!
olive oil is the best thing really, if it hasn't cleared up within 2 weeks of using it then you will have to get it syringed as nothing else will work.
make sure you keep your head tilted for a few minutes after instilling the drops so they don't come out!

The best way to get out the wax is a method called Candling. Many spas offer this service it is an egyption method that has great results. What they do is take a coned shaped paper thing it looks like what they use for cotton candy and you hold it in your ear they then light it on fire and the heat and suction form the flame sucks all the wax out of your ear. It will work I have tried it and the results are amazing...good luck

Go to your chemist and ask for product called Earex. This breaks the wax down and gets rid of it. In future, never poke anything in your ears to clean them, especially cotton buds. Just get a corner of a towel if you feel the need to get inside your ears. You may have to have your ears syringed in case you have a build up of cotton buds inside them. You should really have it done. The procedure only takes a couple of minutes and it doesn't hurt at all. You'll be amazed at all the muck that comes out!

Get them syringed! My 63 year old mother avoided getting her ears syringed for the same reason. Her hearing got worse and worse and in the end I forced her to go. I went in with her because she was afraid. All they do is put warm water down and out pops the wax! My mother couldn't believe it and said she wishes she'd had it done years ago. They gave her a spray to spray down the ear once a week to prevent more wax and told her that it will mean she probably will never have to have them done again!

I just went to an ENT a few weeks ago with the same problem. They can either suck it out witrh a vacuum device or they can syringe it. The syringe process may sound bad but it isn't. They use a syringe with a tube connected to it to force water into your ear. It will flush out the extra wax. It's called an ear lavage and you will actually like it (when it's done). I've had both done and I prefer the lavage over the suction.

The olive oil worked for me, but I must have has less wax in my ears at the time. And getting them syringed isn't painful at all... it would be well worth it since with the olive oil you have to leave it in your ear for at least that day

Believe it or not having your ears syringed isn't bad, it just feels a bit weird, kind of ticklish. Try warm olive oil, it works far better than anything else I've tried. I've even tried the over the counter stuff you can get.

While you are in the shower take a cap full of Peroxide and put it in one ear and then lean your head over, so it can sit in your ear canal for about 10-20 seconds...then do the other one. It will take several or more times of doing this, but it does dissolve the wax over time. It really works!

Oh i love having my ears syringed. You can hear for miles and it doesn't hurt a bit. If not, try Hopi ear candles. They'll draw out the wax and relax you at the same time.
