i was wondering how lucky i actually am..... i had a tyre blowout on the motorway at seventy mph... me plus 2 passengers and my dog escaped without a single scratch. evan though we hit the central reservation 3-4 times. and spun 360' at least twice. ended up facing the wrong way in the fast lane, in a car full of smoke. people keep telling me how lucky i am to be alive. am i? or do many people survive similar situations?

You are probably not quite so lucky as you might think.
I watch a lot of motor-sport, and actually banging into barriers at an oblique angle and spinning around is no great deal, and the damage is usually not too severe.
The problems really occur when you hit something coming the other way, or run into a stationary vehicle.
Where you have been lucky, is in the fact that you did not bounce across the motorway and leave the road, or just as bad, get hit by another vehicle when you had come to a halt.
Luck plays a big part in all accidents, so by having a fairly "happy" accident, you've enjoyed a bit of it.
I would also point out that modern vehicles are amazingly strong, and I witnessed a medium-size Nissan 4x4 hit a stone wall and stop within 3ft of the impact, which police estimated to have been in excess of 75mph.
The driver and passenger were able to open the doors and clamber out.

My hubby survived a crash going about 77. Flipped three times, the second flip was in mid-air, landed in the median, his door gently fell open and he walked out without a scratch.
In his case, some moron in a truck did not have his load tied down or covered, and a piece of furniture fell out onto the interstate. My hubby and another car wrecked, separately, trying to avoid the furniture on a split second notice.
Yes, 77 was a bit fast, but the speed limit was 70, and everyone around him was doing 80 to 85.

I blacked out while driving. 75mph in to a tree, snapped femur and lacerated splene, June 6 2016. I had cruise on and was out for 15 miles plus another 10 or so before waking up. Pretty sure it is a 10% survival rate on mines

I take it your vehicle didnt flip over and you just spun out and slid along or glanced off of the median wall. You were very lucky. If your vehicle had started to tumble at that speed survival would be much less likely. If it did roll over, buy a lotto ticket for me please.

You sure had your Mojo on full that day!!
The simple reason you are alive to tell the tale is that you didn't hit anything hard.
In a crash, it's sudden deceleration that hurts or kills, not the speed you were travelling at. If you'd hit anything full on at 70mph, I wouldn't be replying to this Q.
Say a little prayer to whichever God you believe in....

I was just telling somebody about a horrific accident I was in 25 years ago or so. turned my vw beetle into head-on collision with van traveling at least 50 mph. was not wearing seat belts. car rolled several times and was totalled. i woke up in ambulance and konked out. woke up in emergency room where a cop gave me a ticket for failure to yield to oncoming traffic.
