Sorry I can't remember the source, but I heard that if you put a cup of water in a smooth, ceramic mug for several minutes on high in the microwave, beaking the surface tension with your spoon after that time could cause the water to explode, possibly causing facial burns. I saw it on one TV show, and this woman did just that, and needed weeks of skin grafts at the burn ward. They also said the smoothness of the mug might be important, because a rougher mug causes little imperfections in the heating, causing bubbles, breaking the surface temperature.

Though I can't remember the TV program, I did find several internet sources to back up what I said.

P.S. I wouldn't suggest trying this at home, though if you did, at least use a very long spoon ;-).

Eggs! as nentioned above. Also, thing like chestnuts, hickory nuts, and any other tightly seal nuts that contain moisture will explode.

Also, Certain acidic fruits like grapes, will emit sparks if their peels are not removed. Cheers!
