Unless you are a woman taking care of children, you aren't suppose to do anything on the sabbath. Hasidic Jews do not travel, nor do they even turn lights on and off. No cooking allowed.

Women are allowed to break this commandment (along with all other commandments that say DO instead of DON'T) because her job as a mother is most important job humans have.

Everything is prepared on friday so on saturday you can "rest". from cooking, cleaning, working, etc. so basically you prepare before the sun sets for saturday. and on saturday which is the day that God made holy, ("Sabbath") people worship like any other religion. there is fellowship, and the praising of the Lord. and when the sun sets on saturday evening, the Sabbath is over.
