About two years ago I ran a red light, and I sort of haven't paid it. This morning I got a call from a detective asking me to come down to the station to claim my stolen labtop that they found. What am I looking at here? Am I over thinking this? Regardless, I know I have to pay the fine eventually.

In Florida they can, I kid you not, seize your house for any unpaid fine above $5.00

What do you mean "you sort of haven't paid it"? If it has been 2 years and you haven't paid the fine there is probably a warrant out for your arrest. If there is, then you may be looking at getting arrested when you go to get your laptop. I live in Florida and believe it or not a woman was raped in February. When she went to report it to the police she was arrested for some unpaid parking tickets. So the night that she was raped she spent in jail instead of at the hospital where she could be treated for the brutal rape that she had endured.

My advice is to go in and pay the fine right away.

In many states, yes if you didn't pay, there is now a warrant out for your arrest. You may be arrested at the station. I would suggest that you call the detective back, tell him the situation and ask what you can do to avoid arrest (which would involve paying the ticket and fine immediately).

Drivers licencse can be suspended. I found out I had an unpaid ticket several years later, and the state would not renew my drivers license until I paid the ticket in full.

You have an arrest warrant issued for you. Anytime a policeman pulls you over, you will go to jail. When it comes time to renew your driver's license, they won't let you. They are going to invent all kinds of ruses to get you in jail and then you can pay or serve time.
