Mockingbirds are pretty territorial. I have never seen a group of them together before. I have seen 2 or 3 fighting each other at the same time though.

Almost nevere will there be that many together at any one time (at least to the human eye and ear). They do like to find a special spot and return to it day after day, (or even night after night). There's one that goes to the tree under the streetlight in front of my house once it gets warm enough. It sings through the night. It's pretty, but not when I'm trying to get some sleep! The most ironic thing is that this always begins to happen right around the same time I begin to teach the novel, "To Kill a Mockingbird" to my 8th Grade class! Every year I find that funny. So do my students.

Pairs maybe, but mockingbirds are very territorial. You will very rarely see more than 2 at a time. In fact, they will dive attack any animal (including humans) that gets too close to their nest when there are eggs in it.

You are seeing the male. Chances are the female is well hidden with their eggs on the nest.

they are Territorial, that's why they sing to keep others away from their turf.
