Hi i have recently got a 6 month old kitten (i think she is about 10 months old). We are trying to keep her as a house cat as my other cat got killed by a car. We have just bought a cay harness and lead and have been taking her in the garden in the afternoon for a stroll, which she still is not to sure about. She has plenty of toys which she only occasionally plays with. I was considering getting another kitten maybe about 8 /9 weeks old to keep her compnay. Because she doesn't go out i have just bought cat grass seed and me and my little by have planted them tonight. Does anyone know how long it takes to grow, and will she enjoy it as we don't let her out on her own. Also would like your advice on gettting a young kitten to keep her company? Thanks xxxx

Thanks for that jenniero, but considering i live in a area with lots of busy roads, roaming dogs and cruel nasty youths, i don't think that is a good idea. How dumb are you OMG!!!!!! saddo

Yes it will help. I'm attaching two VITAL links. One (or three) is to make the cats more active, as indoors they lack climbing space, the other for introductions, which need to be done properly or the cats might not like each other as much as they could.
Enjoy the read (and the spending!) and good luck!

getting another kitten is a great idea as this makes the cats more content with being indoors all the time. That is what I did. I got my first kitten and realized the poor guy was lonely so I took him with me to the shelter and let him pick out a friend. He ended up picking the cutest cat there. They are inseperable and now don't always cry when I leave the house. Secondly, the cat grass thing:I tried it and my cats ended up barfing all over the place. They use it like a cleanser. It cleans out their digestive system and they puke it up. If you're okay with cleaning that up all the time would say go for it, but i stopped giving it to my cats because it a pain. I give them pieces of lettuce and spinach though, and they really like that.

The cat grass grows vry quickly - you'll see shoots in a few days and you can start giving the grass to your cat in 8 days when it is about 3 or 4 inches long.
About getting another kitten to keep your kitty company. Since your cat is female, I think that if you will get a playmate for her, you'd best do it while she is still a kitten herself. And yes, I think it is a fine idea to get a playmate for yur cat. It will keep her from getting lonely and bored. And an additional cat is really not that much of an additional burden as far as care and grooming and feeding is concerned.

I would definitely get another kitten is that is something you can take on behaviorally and financially. A male kitten would be the best choice. It is never predictable how any cats will get along and it is pretty much true that females have more difficulty adjusting to another female than a male.
It is important that the kitten appeals to you and you want it. Cats will make their own adjustments with time. If you are resolved that the new kitten is to be in your home and it is not open to arbitration or discussion you will have the patience to get through the adjustment period.

definitely get a kitten that is younger then the other one.animals don't like giving up seniority. all animals need a friend.it only takes a week or two to grow the cat grass.most cats like it but it isn't necessary to have because if she's never has been outside much then she won't know the difference. if she doesn't seem to like her toys then get a string and move it around on the floor and let her chase it. they also like for you to throw toy mice for them to run after.

I don't know about the cat grass seed. But I do know that company is the best thing for cats. I only had one cat for about 3 years. And then about a year ago I got another. My first cat was getting a little 'chunky' and he seemed really lonely and bored. Now that I have another one they both seem happy and not overweight. Even our vet said that getting another cat was the best thing for my first cat.

That is a great idea! Kittens are usually very social, and would welcome the company while you are gone.
I also use a leash and harness for my cat. He loves it, and gets excited every time he sees it. He is trained enough that he won't try and go outside until he's harnesses up. I would recommend getting a flea-repellent though. Just so you don't bring fleas into the house during the warm weather.
Good luck to you!!

Two cats are always better than one for many reasons:-
You're saving two lives instead of one.
One cat can become lonely
They help each other burn off energy
Fewer behavior problems with two cats
Curiosity overcomes "food finickyness."
They act as pillows for one another.
Having two cats is insanely fun.
They will each have a friend for life.
