I have an open kitchen/dining room/living room floorplan. My kitchen cabinets are a dark mehogany color. Coutertops are dark grey, floors are a dark grey tile and carpet is a light grey/bluey color.

I hate neutrals but am I stuck? What color should I be painting our walls with so much grey? Our cabinets are lovely and I really want a color that will show them off, not hide them.

Any suggestions?

First I would go to the paint department at a store and take home some of the small sample colors and hang them on the wall. I think a nice light yellow would bring the grey and blues together. Or you could paint the cabinets white and the walls white. But most people are too scared to paint cabinets. If you do paint the cabinets prime them first. When you put the sample colors up leave them up on the wall for a few days to see if you like one. Good luck and have fun!

Look at different color greens... like silvery sage (a Pottery Barn color found at Benjamin More paint stores.) That will go with the reddish brown of the mahoghany as well as the grayish countertop and flooring. Its neutral enough without being boring.

Get lots of paint chip samples, but only in the 'cool' color family; NO browns/tan/beige/yellow, etc.; they will clash with the cool colors you have now,,ask to see a color wheel or maybe find one online and see which colors are complementary to the carpet color, this can give you some other ideas...if you use any warm colors, they will clash with the cool colors you have & will look awful and be hard to live with!! trust me!!..email me if you have any questions...

Light apple greens or maybe a light gold-orangy color would accent the mahogany cabinets.
