Go for a natural light colour,it gives that lovely spacious feeling but also light and airy.
I have recently painted mine soft stone which is like a light creamy colour and the opposite walls a light caramel.
Everyone who comes round here always comments on the colours and how well they go together. Mine was from b&q, i wouldn't recommend the silk finish it looks too false but the soft sheen, which looks more natural. Finger prints can easily be washed off.

Happy decorating.

this all depends on the size, height and light of your hallway.

if long and thin, using a darker colour at the end makes the room seem squarer. If it is an overly tall space, using a dado rail with a dark colour at the bottom, and a lighter colour at the top will make the room, appear more in proportion. using a picture rail can create the illusion of height, especially when you paint above this a lighter colour. The colour of course depends greatly on your own preferences. so the colour is entirely up to you, if you are unsure, you could paint it a neutral as the others have suggested until you decide for sure.

You should stick to a light natural colour. Anything too dark will bring the walls in and make it look dark and depressing (depending on how big your hallway is) If its small the dark colours will make it look smaller. Also if you have toddlers or children, buy a silk finish so you can wash the walls down, incase of mucky hands.

It all depends on your specific taste ofcourse, but I personally painted my hallway a light yellow color called sunlight (by Ralph Lauren... you can find it at Home Depot.) It's a nice light color that brightens up the space and is neutral enough without being boring.

If your hallway has no light source (other than a hall light) then I'd paint it a light color. If it has tons of 'natural' light - then I'd paint it a dark color.

i think you need a bright colour for a hallway if its quite narrow, I have a colour called seduction by dulux, its yellow but not bright yellow.

Just done mine with B&Q yellow, cheap and cheerful, pleased with it though, very spring and bright. Yellow seems a popular choice with the listeners.
