I go to First Baptist Church of Orlando.........which is very fundamentally sound in doctrine. I wouldn't be there if they weren't.

But I do have a bit of a problem with drama, smoke & lights as if I were at a broadway production. To me, there should be no place for things like that (including heavy metal) on a church platform.

The early church in the book of Acts set it up this way:
Reading of the word.....
Singing of a hymn or 2.....
Preaching & teaching......

Where have we gone wrong?

Worshipping the Lord should be done in a reverent manner. Jumping all over & having loud rock music is not reverent in any way to the Lord. You need to slow it down & quiet it down to show the Lord that you are humble & showing Him reverence.

I view drama / dance type performances similar to Jesus' parables. My church does these things as a way to get across a message in a way that is powerful. Our culture is so fascinated by visual stimulation and music, I think it makes sense to utilize those types of things when you're witnessing. Our minds sometimes understand things better in story format than straight principles.

We go out and perform in public places, drawing a crowd to whom we can then share the gospel. One "dance' is a 10 minute stomp routine that tells the story of the fall of Lucifer through the resurrection. It has no words, so it speaks to anybody , not just English speakers. It is the most powerful presentation of the story that I've seen. Music touches our souls.

God granted us all different gifts and talents. There are so many gifted Christians who worship God through their artistic expression. And there are many who these dramas or songs speak to spiritually. If God gave His children these gifts and they are using them for His glory that I say praise the Lord. Sometime a heavy metal christian song can do more for the kingdom than anything else can. We must always be looking for ways to creatively bring the Word to God's lost children without compromising the Truth.

Primo,
I spent 8 1/2 years doing Christian drama....
How about Hosea....God used a living example with Hosea marrying a prostitute and after she let him told him to go get her and make her his wife again to show God's love for Israel. And Jeremiah used examples with people as well.
We haven't gone wrong.
In Covenant Players, we didn't use smoke and lights but people's imaginations to get them thinking.
If Heavy metal (not my style by any means) brings people to Jesus does that make it wrong to put on the platform?
And for Easter we'll be helping pastor Scott do an illustrated sermon with the Crucifixion and Resurrection.

It's kind of hard to avoid a bit of drama at church.

I don't go to church anymore, but I did always hate that over the top stuff. That just isn't religion. If you're trying to assert that it's real, you really shouldn't be dramatizing it. I always thought that extra stuff should be reserved for other special events.

I think in a growing culture of art and media, the Church should be able to reach into that more in order to spread the Kingdom of God. While I do believe there is a fine line between in the world and of the world, we (the church) should be able to grow and change ( not compromise) with the culture in order to be more relevant.

Just to let you know the baptist church is a good church but not fundamentally sound.

they believe that there is no proxy between you and God basically soul freedom.

God says my house is a house of order.

Why do the baptist church not believe in the Melchezidic and Aronic priesthood which is in there bible which Christ held?

Have you asked god if the baptist church is his church?

If God had a church wouldnt he have the clergy hold his same priesthood? and be set up like the one in there bible?

Gods church is on this earth and there is a true and living prophet with the keys to the ministry.

It is a promise in the book of Mormon that if you read it and pray in the name of Christ if this church is his true church he will manifest it to you.

Take the challenge and you will get your answer predicated upon your faith in christ.

Why would you have a problem with artistic expression which is supposed to be a God given gift? Isn't there something about 'making a joyful noise'? No, I don't see the disconnect. Creativity is a gift, talent is a gift, artistry is a gift.....because you are Christian who do you think gave out these gifts?

Nothing's gone wrong my friend, but the fact that you are unable to see that as long as it is worship...who cares what form it takes.

What I don't agree with is what drama the church can cause...

It was those damn Stuarts who lifted the Puritan ban on drama that was in effect from 1649 to 1660. Tell us, what's it like beng 350 years behind the times?
